Description:
1969 Chevrolet Camaro
Here is an excellent Driver 1969 Camaro Z28 Clone. It was originally a 327 X44 car - Daytona Yellow with Houndstooth interior. When I got it 2 years ago, it had clearly been in storage for a while. The exterior is 90% original - with some repairs on the lower door panels (see pics). Stripes and Z28 badges were added prior to me owning the car - probably in the 80s. New rear bumper, as there was a dent in the driver side (partially damaged the body - see pics) Paint is original! Body Panels are original! That being said, the paint and body panels do show as a 50 year old car would - so don't expect perfection. It looks great from 10-15 feet, but certainly has some flaws. No holes, some VERY minor surface rust in various spots - but still excellent for a 50 year old car!
The engine is a 70's 350, with a complete upper rebuild within the last 2 years. Compression tested, tuned, and runs great. There is a new complete exhaust from chrome headers to factory style dual exhaust with downturned outlets. It has a new gas tank and filters as well.
The 3 speed transmission shifts perfectly, though there is a small leak from the pan - new chrome pan has been installed, but could use some extra sealer around one of the bolts. New front disc brakes and master cylinder have been installed - the front drums had difficulty keeping up with the power.
I have replaced nearly the entire interior, as it was a disaster when I got it. It has a retro style radio with bluetooth, USB and aux cables tucked under the dash. It also has an Alpine 10" sub, Alpine amp, new 6x9 and 6.5 inch speakers throughout. Sounds great, but not as good as the rumble of the V8. Trunk is completely solid with new houndstooth mat. The chassis is great, though there are 3 holes - a dime size under driver floor, quarter size under passenger rear floor, and dime size under passenger side front. I have painted those to stop the spread, and given the size, and how solid the floors are, I opted to keep it original rather than cut it. When gutted, I sanded and painted the complete interior metal to stop and possible rust - though it's very solid. Doors open and close without dipping, all glass is original, and works great (front door cranks are extended, and could use some fine tuning, but work fine with some angle pressure).
This is a driver for sure, though it could be made a show car with exterior work and some minor tweaks. I have not wanted to work on the exterior, as complete cars are getting to be extremely rare.
A few other notable items:
-New Edelbrock 4 barrel carburetor and air cleaner
-The lights work- headlights, taillights, brakes, gaugelights, glove box, turn signals, reverse lights, corner lights, brights (via footswitch) etc all work
-Horn works
-New headliner
-Antenna is not connected - I accidentally closed it behind the passenger kick panel, and left it there, since I just listen to USB or phone.
-Wipers don't work. Never traced the issue, since I wouldn't drive it in the rain
-New Dash Pad
-Speedometer and Fuel gaugeswork
This is probably one of the most solid original body 69 Camaros out there.
