Almost without a doubt - the Chevrolet Chevelle was King of the muscle car era. The timeless design along with large displacement engine options the Chevelle ruled the streets of America from 1968-1972. But by 1970 the writing was on the wall for future muscle cars with rising gas prices, high insurance premiums and choking emission regulations. It was only a matter of time before the muscle car was extinct. In 1970 Chevy produced the baddest muscle car of all time, The Chevelle SS 454 LS-6, producing 450 horses on paper, but we all knew it was over 500 and it roasted its tires at every stop light and every track in America. People bought this car off the Chevy showroomsstrictly for one thing....and that was to go as fast as possible in a straight line. It earned their owner's bragging rights, chest pounding bragging rights to anyone who would listen. A car could finally talk the talk and walk the walk. But as 1970 came to a close, so did the check box on the order sheet for the LS-6 454 option. A 1 year option....the next best option was the LS-5 for 1971. Still producing 365 horses and being married to the M-22 Rock Crusher 4 speed - Chevelle still held its own in 1971.
Little did we know for any of these muscle cars back then was their future value. Today this era car is as valuable as ever and more popular then ever, but back in the 70's and 80's these cars were just ghosts of their hay day. Sitting up on blocks in the side driveway, with rusty Crager's and primed body panels... these cars were like old dogs resting in the shadows of yesteryear. Only a few smart owners preserved these vehicles, as if they had a crystal ball and knew that history would 1 day repeat itself. This 1971 Chevy Chevelle SS offered here today is one of those cars, that has been well preserved. It is one of the most original Chevelles I have ever come across that is not beat to death. Wearing 1 repaint from the early 80's this car was just removed from storage since 1998. Please read on and make sure you view the video at the end. Thank you for reading....
Exterior:
As mentioned earlier, the exterior is all original except for 1 amateur repaint that was done in the 80's. The stripes on the car appear original as the painter masked them off before spraying the car. As you walk around the exterior you can just see the patina of its originality. Some minor dents and minor pitting. All the original glass is still intact and in excellent condition and the original chrome and bright work is brilliant for its age. The body has all its original sheet metal and is very straight and solid with no rust. Underneath the vehicle(floors and frame), although showing its age, is solid and original with no patch work, no rot and no holes. EXTREMELY Solid. The trunk compartment is solid and original with no holes, rot or rust. I believe the spare tire is original to the car. All the wheels are original and unrestored. If you're a fanatic about originality and like investing in preserved cars, this may be a good fit for you. Please view the pictures and videos and let us know of any questions you may have.
Interior:
The interior is about 90% original and is in excellent condition. The carpet was replaced and about 50% of the driver's seat material was redone and it matches great. One thing I will mention, the interior shop did lose the female ends of the seat belts in the front. The dash, door panels, console and headliner are all original and in excellent original condition. A vintage aftermarket tachometer is strapped to the steering column just like we did back in the day. This is an excellent example of a well preserved interior from the 70's. please view the pictures and let us know of any questions.
Drive Train:
The drive train is about 95% original with its original #'s matching 454 Big Block - its original #'s matching M-22 Rock Crusher 4 Speed Transmission and its original 12 bolt posi rear. Looking at the pictures you'll see all the stampings what were they should be and you'll also see 47 years and 79k miles of seepage and grime. The original intake was removed and there is an aftermarket edelbrock intake along with an re-pop Quadrajet 4 bbl carburetor. There is a date coded intake and the original breather along with some restoration parts will come with the purchase. What has been done to make it road worthy was a fluid change, a gas tank and fuel system flush and a complete brake system. New master cylinder, stainless steel lines, rotors, calipers, drums, shoes and wheels cylinders. Also an OEM exhaust was installed and four brand new tires. I believe the spare is original to the car and 4 vintage, 80's tires were removed and saved and will come with the purchase of the car. The last time this vehicle was on the road was 1998 and there is documentation to prove it. The engine is smooth, and the car runs with no hesitation or no sputter. The suspension is tight and the vehicle handles as well as it did back in the 70's. Let us know of any questions you may have.
In Summation:
I can't stress this enough, this Chevelle is very original and has only been maintained and preserved, never restored. And by the sounds and looks of the car, it doesn't seem to have been abused and only has 79k documented miles. I have provided pictures of all the numbers and trim tag. Please do your research on the production number from this combination Chevelle SS. This car has all the right ingredients when collecting(Big Block - 4 Speed - SS-Low production numbers) The build sheet was not found under the back seat so it still could be in the headliner, we don't know. Please view all pics and video. Any questions please email me your phone number and I will call you or email is fine also
Payment:
I require a $500 immediate deposit that is non refundable by paypal. The balance due in certified funds or bank transfer. Final completion of payment is due in 7 days. Car will be kept in storage until funds have cleared and shipping company arrives. Thank you!
