Description:
1959 Chevrolet Bel Air/150/210 Bel Air
1959 Chevrolet Bel Air.
History: I bought this car from an estate a few years ago. It was owned by man who's family referred to it a Grandpa's hot rod. It started off as a 6 cylinder 2 speed automatic that over time he changed to a 350-4 bbl and 3 speed automatic. He had the car reupholstered, and just for before parking it had a new dual exhaustsystem installed. There has been some rust repair done in the trunk, mostly in the spare tire well, I have never had it on a hoist but my guess is some repair work was done there as well. The repair work was not professionallyor especially well done but it seems to work. I bought the car because it had a great 50's look to it, but I have far too many cars and not enough storage to keep it.
Mechanical: The engine runs very well, it starts at a touch of the key. There is no smoke or strange noises and has plenty of power. The transmission shifts well, the exhaustsystemis new (great rumbleto it), the brakes are soft but it may just need bleeding from sitting. I have only driven it to the local car wash and to the beach last weekend so I can't tell you what it is like on the highway. It seems to run cool but there is a transmission fluid leak (not a lot but some). The speedometer does not work. This car sat for a few years before I bought it and I have had it parked in my son's garage for the last two years. I charged the battery and pumped the gas and it fired right up. The brakes are soft but work, the battery is good. I have not checked the all the lights and gauges.
Body: All the glass is good including the windshield, the windows all roll up and down. It has the desirable one piece bumpers. The chrome is in average condition. The car has been repainted a brighter blue than the factory color, it has been touched up over the years and is rubbed through in many places and sun baked in others, the paint is oxidizedand flat from the sun. The car has surface rust but no rust holes in the panels that I have found. Overall I think the patina looks fantastic, personally I wouldn't change a thing about the way it looks.I have not had the car on a hoist but I assume it has had work done on the floors over the years but getting in and out of the car there are no soft spots. The trunk has had repair work done and its not a pretty job but is functional. There are no large dents, all the chrome is in place.
Interior: At some point the interior was redone including the headliner, rear package tray, seats, carpet, door panels and sun visors. It is in good condition the dash is complete but has some paint peeling that again adds to the patina.
Shipping and Exporting: I can help the buyer with the importation paperwork if it sells to a US buyer as I am familiarwith the process and I can help with arranging shipping. If it sells outside the US or Canada I can put you in touch with an international shipper and customs broker. For Canadian buyers, the car has a British Columbia registration in my name. The car is located in Victoria Canada and I can ship it to the border at Blaine Washington for 150.00 if you decide to come and pick it up. Getting shipping quotes is time consuming and will only be done for the winning bidder,
Payment: Payment by bank to bank wire transfer or cash in person must be made within 5 days of the end of the auction NO EXCEPTIONS.
Overall: This is a fun car, its not perfect but but it looks great and runs well. It has a nice sort of rat rod look now but could be painted if this look doesn'tappealto you. 1959 Chevrolet's have come in huge demand in recent years with coups and convertibles out of the price range of most people. If your looking for a fun car for familycruising and local car shows that won't cost you more than your house, then this may be the car for you. I'm reducing the number of cars in my collection, so I have made this an no reserve auction with a low starting bid because I'm serious about selling it. If you do not have the funds or you are not certainabout buying it. then please don't bid. Please keep in mind that this is an un-restored car that is almost 60 years old. it runs and drives but I am certainthere are things that will need to be done. its not perfect.
