Description:
1951 Chevrolet 5700 5700
This is a work horse. I got it almost 2 years ago from an older cat out in PA. He would drive it multiple times a week, and out to Carlisle once a year- about a 150 mile trip. I got in the truck and drove it home 90 miles with no issue when I purchased it.Since then, It was always stored inside (up until two weeks ago) and drove about 2 days a week. My house to shop is about 18 miles one way and that was the normal trip I would do. I've had it down the parkway and 287 a few times.
I've put in a new Mishimoto aluminum radiator that bolted right in- NO hacking at all(still have the one that came on truck), new water pump, all new hoses, thermostat, 6 fresh tires (split rims were pretty easy to get apart) threw in some new speakers and Bluetooth head unit. The truck is a solid, fun runner. I've thrown a small car trailer on the back, and loaded the bed multiple times.
The good-Runs cool all day in 90 deg weather.Hard to find on east coast.Blinkers, side markers, headlights, tail, breaks all good. Total road worthy. Was told by prev owner 2 speed rear shifts great- I never needed it.Rides down the road straight.Floors are solid1958 235ciTruck ALWAYS starts.Within last three yearsprevious owner did brake system overhaul with new brake lines and hoses, replace master cylinder, rebuild wheel cylinders, rebuild brake booster, also new battery, new glass & rebuild cab heater system.
The bad-Cab gets a bit fumigated at start up.Missing side view mirror glass only. Will backfire a bit while warming up. See vidIt has some rust. See photos and video for the worst of it.Paint is poor.OG gauges not workingonly thing that works above dash is the switches and new head unit. CB and other stuff is inoperable.
Please watch the two videos, (sorry for the bad filming) and zoom in to the photos. Anyone is welcome to come see the truck and I will take you for a ride. Truck is reg and insured as a 51 5700. Who ever buys it, I want to be happy BUT this truck is 67 years old so I offer no warranty, or intend to misinterpret it in anyway. Here's some info from when I bought it:
Restored and maintained the truck for about 25 years. The original truck owner set it up as a mobile onsite generator for the Hercules Electric Co. It spent the majority of time parked at construction sites and only had 38,000 miles when he bought it. It has some surface rust along the beltline and on the bottom of the cowl. There are a few rust through holes on the cab at fenders. Mechanically it is in good condition, everything works and it is roadworthy. This unit had a cab off restoration 15 years ago that included a rebuilt 1958, 235 c.i. engine with insert main bearings rather than babbitt style. The truck has the standard 4 speed transmission with functioning 2 speed rear all with no leaks.
