1993 Chevrolet Camaro

The Chevrolet Camaro was the first car to pace the Indy 500 four times, nd this 1993 pace car replica is a sure-fire future collectable because of it. Only 645 pace cars were built in 1993, ith this one being #44, nd with just 23,041 original miles, t's an excellent example for the collector who knows how special these cars can be.GM in the 1990s had a "ribbon" theme going on with their pace cars, nd this Camaro is perhaps the best example of Randy Wittine's design work (he also did the Corvette pace cars). Black and white always works well and the colorful graphics package accentuates the all-new Camaro's long, ean shark-like look. The factory-applied paint is in excellent condition, howing only very minor signs of age and use, nd if this car has ever seen rain, 'd be shocked. The decals are still tightly adhered to the body with no peeling or checking and it proudly wears 'Z/28' emblems on the front fenders. Other neat details include matching stripes along the edges of the hood, pecial Indianapolis Motor Speedway badges, nd that very nicely integrated rear spoiler. The interior also got an early '90s look, ith colorful cloth bucket seats and matching door panels, ll part of the pace car package. Like the actual car used to pace the 1993 Indy 500, his one sports a 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission, nd as the top-of-the-line model, ust about everything was standard. The list of features includes A/C, ower windows and locks, ruise control, nd a rear window defroster. Just about everything is in almost new condition and it all works: the A/C is cold, he windows power up and down easily, nd the AM/FM/CD stereo system sounds pretty darned good, ven today. Big analog gauges monitor everything going on under the hood and the rest of the controls are big user-friendly buttons and knobs (remember those?). T-tops are a Camaro tradition that give you all the benefits of open-air motoring without the drawbacks, nd the glass panels themselves are in excellent condition with weather-stripping that seals up tight. The hatch area is almost like new, nd offers plenty of storage.GM's LT1 350 cubic inch V8 engine was standard in the Z/28, o that's what the pace car received as well. Slightly de-tuned from its duty in the Corvette (or so they'd have us believe), t's still plenty fast and in 1993, t was more than a match for those pesky Mustangs from across town. This one is, f course, ompletely stock and unmodified save for a replacement battery, ritical for a car that can probably be considered an investment. The LT1 is legendary for its reliability and performance, aking this pace car a lot of fun to drive; how the original owner was able to resist it is hard to understand. The 4-speed automatic is always quick to serve up a downshift and with 3.42 gears out back, t's got a nice balance of acceleration and cruising ability. The stock Z/28 suspension was just fine for pace car duty and Camaros have had beefy disc brakes for years, o no worries about keeping it all in check. Special white-painted alloy wheels are fitted and carry 245/50/16 performance radials.Distinctive, are, nd instantly collectable, his Camaro pace car is an affordable way to get an A-list piece of history that will surely become more desirable in the coming years.
