1967 Chevrolet Malibu
Nope, t's not a Chevelle, t's a Malibu! Saved from being converted into something it's not, his clean 1967 Malibu hardtop is just an honest old car with a lot of eyeball appeal and a strong-running small block V8. If you wanted a sporty, omfortable coupe but didn't want to feed a big block engine, Malibu is what you bought, nd it's just as appealing today for those very same reasons. The bright red paint makes this car a standout. There will be no sneaking around, nd it doesn't need stripes and hood scoops to attract a lot of attention. The shape is one of GM's better designs, lean, hiseled and well-defined without being gimmicky, he A-body was a slam-dunk in the mid-60s. It was repainted a few years ago and they did a commendable job, s the long quarters are straight, anel gaps are decent all around, nd the car has a performance look that isn't over-bearing, key to the Malibu's appeal. There are a few signs of use and age here and there, nd most of them could be erased with a professional cut and buff, ut even as it sits, his is a really good-looking car. Most of the chrome and trim has been replaced or restored, ffering a bright grille, hiny chrome bumpers, nd correct badging throughout, ncluding the "CHEVELLE" letters on the hood (because, s you know, he Malibu was a sub-model of the Chevelle in 1967).The black bench seat interior is part of the Malibu's no-nonsense vibe and the seat covers, oor panels, eadliner, nd dash pad were replaced fairly recently. The wide speedometer still has clean, right markings and very little fading, nd the woodgrained accents that were part of the Malibu package are still bright and crisply rendered. There aren't a lot of options, ut it does carry factory A/C, hich is fully functional thanks to modern hardware working behind the scenes. The big three-spoke steering wheel has a great '60s look and a column shifter for the TH350 3-speed automatic transmission makes this one as easy to drive as you remember. The big back seat looks almost new, s do the carpets, nd the cavernous trunk shows nice floors and a full-sized spare tire assembly that probably dates to when the car was still in regular service.A recent 350 cubic inch crate motor fits easily between the Malibu's fenders, step up from the original 327/PowerGlide setup. Chevy Orange paint gives it a proper Chevrolet look, ith a Summit Racing aluminum intake and Holley 4-barrel carburetor to add some power. The accessory drive is a serpentine setup from a late-model that includes an updated alternator and modern A/C compressor, hile a dual reservoir master cylinder for the power front disc brakes adds safety. A new Flowmaster exhaust system gives it that famous V8 sound and it really is remarkably clean underneath, ith nice floors and a lot of new components. The aforementioned TH350 3-speed automatic transmission feeds a factory 10-bolt rear end, hich lives just ahead of a brand new gas tank. Rally wheels were installed a few years ago and always look right, specially with fat 235/60/15 white-letter radials that really fill the fenders.A fun, ffordable car with a performance image, ots of upgrades, his Malibu has a ton of potential.
