1942 Chevrolet Other Pickups --

You just won't find many classic vehicles that can match the combination of outstanding vintage styling, exceptional curb appeal and the historical impact of this 1942 Chevrolet 3100 pickup. It would be a fitting inclusion in any time capsule large enough to contain it, though its absence from the road would be sorely missed, as while most of the world was in upheaval when it began its noble service, this impressively well-restored workhorse was holding down the fort at home,... helping to keep American commerce rolling along as it bore its loads and performed its duties. Decked out in a two-tone paint job that sees the black of the fenders, wheelhouses and running boards transition into ensign blue - an actual Chevy color option at the time - this 3100 cuts an impressive appearance. The paint is in really nice condition, shining convincingly beneath its clearcoat, and it's ornamented by extensive chrome trim that's been meticulously refurbished. With its tapered hood, generously-proportioned fenders and running boards and curved, compact cab, it exudes vintage style. Prominent front grilles always seem to be part and parcel with classic trucks, but the way the chrome trim on the sides merges with the horizontal bars of the grille at the front of the hood, before transitioning into vertical bars directly below, really amplifies its visual impact. It's a very finished looking vehicle, as well, with carefully aligned and flush fitting panels, very clear glass and new looking seals. A pair of wipers, as opposed to the more commonly seen single, extend down from the roof of the cab to clear the windshield for both driver and passenger and, seeing as this truck is perfectly capable of handling frequent driving, it's a nice upgrade. The interior has been thoroughly brought back to life while still retaining a period-correct appearance. The gray vinyl and cloth bench seat may be more opulently padded for comfort than in its original state, and the very well-fitted door panels more ornate, but both are very much in keeping with early '40s styling sensibility. The original shifter beckons the driver as it extends up from the floor, and a similarly vintage steering wheel sits just in front of the dash area, an expanse of gray steel that features a fully restored instrument cluster and ivory-colored knobs on its control switches. Sitting just a bit lower is an underdash air conditioning system - one of the very few deviations from stock configuration and certainly a nice benefit for driver and passenger alike. The bed area in back is in great condition, with no dings on its walls and stainless steel slats interspersed with newly treated wood lining its floor. As much as this venerable truck gives off the vibe of a museum exhibit, it's undeniably road worthy, as well. A 235-cubic inch inline 6 cylinder engine sits underneath the tapered hood and, equipped with a manual choke, it's running well and more than up to the task of driving you around town as you pass admiring onlookers. It's mated with a 4-speed manual transmission that shifts very securely to further inspire confidence. As an added measure of modern-day dependability, its original electrical system has been upgraded to a more modern 12 volt system. This unusually well-restored and nostalgia-inducing pickup sits on a set of vintage stock Chevy wheels, outfitted with Bridgestone Insignia blackwalls. Looking for a truly unique classic truck that would be equally at home drawing crowds at car shows as it would be turning heads while driving around town?
