1972 Chevrolet Corvette Base
Hi and thanks for looking. I'm downsizing my car collection and selling my 1972 454 Corvette Coupe. This car will be for sale at the Spring Turkey Run in Daytona if not sold by then (Friday, March 23rd) I believe I am the 3rd owner and purchased the car in 2015 from an auto dealer who had taken the car in as a trade, although it had sat in a barn for many years. I have spent more than $15K bringing her back to life and while she isn't 100% complete, I've done the majority of the dirty work. The car was very original when I got it, minus the L-88 style hood which the prior owner installed, although I'm pretty sure it's the original 454 hood with a scoop added. Here is a list of what's been done: - New paint - the car was completely stripped and re-painted in the Fall of 2017 with Dupont War Bonnet Yellow (the original color). More than 200 hours were spent and the paint job is spectacular. The body guy even took the hood and made the L-88 scoop perfectly bonded to the hood - New chrome rally wheels and tires - the car had knock-offs when I first purchased but I wanted the classic wheel look and added 4 brand-new chrome rally rims and tires - New power steering pump - the steering overall is tight but I have not replaced the rack but did replace the rack bushing as it was shot - New power brake booster, calipers and pads all around - New wiper parts (vacuum) - arm control valve, actuator - wipers work great as do headlights (solid vacuum pressure) - New horn relay (has original horn) - New high-torque starter (lifetime warranty) - New alternator - New P/S and alternator belts - New shocks, front and rear, Gabriel - New plugs, distributor cap, rotor and points - also set the timing - New torsion bars in the rear, along with new leaf bushings and stabilizer bar bushings - New door weather stripping as well as the hood weather stripping - Changed all fluids and filters - rear end fluid, transmission (TH400) filter/fluid, engine oil/filter, fuel filter and air filter - I believe it has a new gas tank, although I did not replace it, but I did drop it to replace a fuel line to the tank The interior is excellent, minus the carpet (it needs to be replaced). No cracks in the dash or door panels, no rips in the seats. If you added a new carpet the interior would be a 10. The exterior is damn close to perfect, the body work is flawless and paint is brand new (body/paint was nearly $12K alone) and the chrome is in excellent shape. Grills are not cracked either, really looks great. The engine is a 454, to my knowledge an early factory replacement crate motor, again I can only go by what the dealer told me (and I'm sure was told to him by the prior owner). It runs smooth and has the Rochester carburetor as well as early points distributor. The fact that is still has points makes me believe the motor was replaced early on by the factory. All gauges work (minus the clock) and it has great oil pressure while running very cool (for a big block). While I've spent lots of $$$ and countless hours making her a respectable driver and show-capable entry, here is what I would say still needs to be done: - New control arm bushings - they are still there but getting pretty dry - New carpet (I'm pretty sure its original in the front) - New P/S rack (or rebuild it), it leaks a bit - Finish detailing the chassis - I started, did a lot of de-greasing and painting but there is more that can be done - Find the right choke mechanism for the carb - the current Rochester has an electronic choke but the original manifold has the thermal sensor and rod - Get the A/C charged - I'm fairly confident the compressor works, it is not seized and when I went to break a line I actually heard it still had something in it - The car had cruise control installed at the dealer. The control is on the steering column but it needs a vacuum piece that goes to the carb. I still have the assembly and linkage. It is a solid driver at this point, even without the choke she starts right up and runs strong. The secondaries work and when you get on it she goes. The only reason I'm getting rid of her is to finish other projects I have on my plate. This is the last year of the chrome bumpers front and rear and with the current paint job she is a 10 at any time of the day. Good luck bidding.Vehicle Details:
