Description:

1971 Chevrolet Corvette

1971 Cheverolet Corvette - As Is/Non-Functional
Originally, I had purchased this Corvette with intentions of having it professionally restored. Through misfortune of my own fault, I had purchased it out-of-state through consignment without having it evaluated first. When I received it, it was in much rougher shape than it had appeared to be. The interior is in poor condition and has many missing parts and including several switches that were disconnected/missing such as the headlights switch and hood release. The brakes and parking brake did not work - my cousin and I attempted to replace the rotors (Wilwood), calipers (Wilwood), lines, and master cylinder, but did not finish it up after having the scheduled evaluation done. The engine did run prior to the evaluation (engine was not tested during evaluation), but I cannot attest to the health of the engine so I cannot guarantee it will still start when picked up. Convertible soft top (black) has not been tested. Many fiberglass parts of the Corvette do not sit flush, such as the doors and fenders. The condition should be assumed worse than appears in photos.
That said, after having it evaluated by County Corvette, they strongly urged me to find a better suited candidate as a project (which I have since found), as they had structural concerns. Below is the evaluation I received - please note thatthe evaluation is not all inclusive and does not include every single flaw of the car, which is why this vehicle is beinglisted AS IS or FOR PARTS.
Please note:As mentioned, this is a 1971 Corvette, but the previous owner had replaced the front end with one from a 1973 Corvette - it does NOT have an L82 engine. Also, I have not titled and registered the car under my name, since there was no point in doing after the evaluation. The title that will come with the car is the title signed and addressed by its previous owner, with the Purchaser and Odometer sections still BLANK, as well as the Bill of Sale that was made out to me (if so needed). VIN # of Corvette is 194671S115078.
Please keep the above in mind as you bid, thank you.
Evaluation as Given by County Corvette

Initial Evaluation and Inspection

Evaluation completed on 2/7/18 – Car was not running or electric hooked up for this evaluation so nothing related to these items were tested or checked. This car is a danger to operate or even have power hooked up to it. The combination of frame damaged and rust, wiring issues, major body and paint concerns and missing parts leave us to suggest to the customer not to invest any money into this project.

Major Frame Concerns:

Rot and Rust developed on frame section running over left rear wheel.

Radiator Support completely rotted/rusted out – Needs to be replaced.

Evidence of front end frame damage from possible previous accident near front sway bar mount – Sway bar not mounted to frame due to this.

Front End is off a later model Corvette and does not fit. This was not installed properly and needs major body and paint repairs

Hood is from a later model Corvette as well and has no provisions for rear latches (male or female). There is no hood release cable installed and the hood prop does not work either.

Vacuum tank relocated to the front but not hooked up properly.

Radiator is zip-tied in

Spare Tire Tub is zip tied together

Pass Side Header is installed but the collector is directly in line with the floor. This will not work and will need to be replaced or major exhaust fabrication done. There is no exhaust system with the car at this time.

HEI distributor is improperly wired and installed. The spark plug wires attached to this HEI distributor are incorrect for this application.

Majority of the fuel lines have been replaced with rubber lines which is unsafe and poses a fire hazard. This goes for the aftermarket glass fuel filter located under the hood as well.

Rear leaf spring is wavy and would be suggested to be replaced.

Rear brake line has been removed. Brake lines installed without proper clips and brackets. Rear flex brake hoses are in poor condition and need to be replaced.

All wiring harnesses have been modified and are in poor condition. Our suggestion at this time would be to replace all factory harnesses. Major fire concerns exist with their condition as well as open ended terminals left unwrapped under the hood. The under hood wiring harness has been modified for the alternator to be moved to the right side of the engine.

Heater Core is bypassed which may mean it is leaking and needs to be replaced.

Ignition Switch binds – Will stay in “start’ position and cause damage..

Telescopic movement in the steering column does not tighten.

Aftermarket gauges in center console – Oil pressure gauge is leaking oil.

Door trim parts and hardware missing for reassembly.

Drivers door exterior door handle return spring broken.

Gas pedal, shifter knob and reverse lockout mechanism components are missing.

Mismatched and poor condition shocks in front and rear.

Excessive movement in rear wheel bearings - Front wheel bearings need to be repacked.

Excessive movement in rear differential yokes.

Steering box improperly mounted to frame

Differential cover broken at spring mount.

Strut Rod bushings need to be replaced.

No rear license plate light

2” wheel spacers and wheel stud concerns pose safety issues and need to be addressed.

**These are not all the concerns related to this car, these are just some items we were able to discover during our initial evaluation of the car for the customer.
