In 1900 Dunbar & Company opened doors in Chicago manufacturing popcorn equipment: started building bodies in the late twenties. Dunbar coachwork was usually applied to Ford Model T one-ton truck chassis. However, early in the depression years a number of units were built on the Chevrolet 1½-ton truck chassis. These were the largest and the last of Dunbar popcorn wagons with a wheelbase of 131 inches and an overall length of almost 17 feet. The body was as much glass as it was wood.
The Chevrolet was a workhorse with a 194 cid inline six, a three-speed, non-synchro gearbox and 20 inch split rims. No options, even the single windshield wiper was hand operated. Suspension was solid axle with leaf springs front and rear. The Dunbar body was a work of art.
