  • NOTE: I apologize!! I just re-listed this after several days as I discovered it was in the wrong category (Manuals, Parts)- which also allows for more pictures now.

I recently acquired this Corvair through a trade and need to sell it to return to a more manageable'3' Corvairs. I am very impressed with the smoothness, handling & driveability of this upgraded Corvair.Solar Automotive bought out John Fitch's parts inventory in 1971 & about 25-30 cars went through the Solar factory, plus some "Kits" were sold. The family name "Cavalier" was applied to the model, hence: "Solar Cavalier". Their business was mostly finished by 1974, but there is evidence that some upgrades occurred through the late 70's. I am aware of the last 4 owners of this car and it appears to be unchanged from when the "upgrading owner" made the changes. The following is a list of the upgrade/options:- Fitch vinyl covered roof;- 140hp/4sp power train from a 1966 Corsa;- Fireball electronic ignition & Coil;- Dual Weber Carburetors (with dual-carb manifolds);- Heavy Duty suspension (I freshened the shocks with new Bilsteins);- Mag Wheels;- Camaro RS Tailights (w/VW back-up lights);- Four Quartz Headlights;- Light illumination kit (all running lights stay on w/ignition);- Grant Wood Wheel;- 3" (central dash) Tachometer;- Trombone Exhaust;- Quick Shift (Corsa?);- 2" deep Oetinger aluminum Oil Pan;
The car runs strong & is smooth to drive. I've had it on four 1 hour+ runs & it was smooth, flawless and a pleasure to drive, including one 10 min stretch at 90MPH. There is no evidence of oil consumption, smoke or leaks. The car is very clean, no major rust, shows nice, but it is not in "show" condition. When I changed the oil (& dropped the pan), the inside of the block looked like new w/no discoloration. I removed the tunnel pan to check & all looked fine. I also refreshed/replaced the U-joints. This would be an excellent car to enjoy & drive to car show events for years. Please feel free to contact me for questions or details. My lift is certainly available, if you want to take a closer look underneath. I can email a video of the engine running, if you want (it sounds good!).
