The wood structure was painstakingly reconstructed . This Superior F has the correct Carter Carberettor, vacuum fuel tank, tail lights, flywheel, hoses, and even the correct nuts, bolts and trim fasteners. The wood steering wheel is original, showing well with nearly a century of use. The Harrison radiator was re-cored. The interior trimwork was left to the very talented hands of Billy Sterm with Reynebeau Upholstery. The Series F Superior Touring Convertible, such as this one, cost a whopping $685 new, versus a mere $290 for the Ford Model T of the same year. To counter the difference in price, Chevrolet promoted the idea that its cars really were "Superior. " The cost included an electric starter and wood-spoke wheels. Bumpers were optional. Touring cars and roadsters also wore wood-spoke wheels. The new Chevy rode on a 103-inch wheelbase but was now powered by an improved powerplant. The Chevrolet 171-cubic inch four-cylinder engine featured overhead valves and produced 26 horsepower, while the Model T's L-head four was rated at a lesser 20 horsepower. Chevy had a conventional three-speed manual transmission but it was updated with a new single dry-plate clutch, replacing the old cone style clutch.
The folding canvas top is in excellent condition. The authentic Moto-Meter was a factory option on the Deluxe Superior model and was added to this example as an upgrade. Included with purchase are; Believed original Title, restoration photos and receipts. The condition is ideal for those enthusiasts who want a usable collector car with a lovely patina. This fun and very usable early Chevrolet would complement any collection and could be driven as is.
