Description:

1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS

1970 Chevelle SS396. The car is like a time capsule from the 70's. I believe am the 3rd owner. The second owner built the car as a street racer back in the 70's. It has the original numbers matching 396 (350 hp) motor, but it is not in the car. The car currently runs a built 1969 Corvette 427; M-22 Muncie Rock Crusher 4 speed; 3:72 ratio posi-traction rear end; hughes scatter shield, line lock, headers, 3 inch exhaust, and ladder bars. It is a beast - runs and sounds great. Really gets attention when you drive into a parking lot. I don't know about the details of the build on the 427. The previous owner said that he put the best parts available at the time into the motor, but I don't have the specifics. It runs very strong. The car has had one re-paint. The paint looks really good but has quite a few years on it. There a a few chips. I took pictures of the worst. The body panels are all original except the drivers side fender. I damaged it a few years back and replaced it with a GM NOS fender (hard to find and expensive, but I wanted original). The winning bidder can have the one I damaged if they want it. The interior is all original. It is pretty amazing for its age. The only thing wrong is the drivers seat has some tears in the seat bottom and the steering wheel plastic horn button needs replaced due to cracks/breaks. The dash is perfect with no cracks. The headliner is perfect. The car is really solid. It is straight with no dings or dents. The odometer says 20,200 miles, but I don't know if it is actual or 120,200 (I assume the milage is low, based on its history). There is no rust. Trunk is solid. I believe the spare tire is original. It has new Mickey Thompson tires with less than 500 miles on them The glass is all good. It has an 8 track - original. The motor runs strong and the transmission shifts well. I was told the M-22 was rebuilt shortly before I bought the car about 8 years ago and it has low miles since. I don't believe the car had a cowl hood from the factory based on the build sheet. The hood that is on the car looks good, but does not have the air cleaner seals and adjustment mechanism. The original numbers matching motor is out of the car, but goes with the sale. The 396 motor will need to be rebuilt. It has the original heads. It was decked sometime in the past and the vin number is a little thin but still readable. I also have the 12 bolt rear end that came with the car. I was told it was the original. I could not find a VIN stamped on it, but it does have a 1029 date code that matches the date of the car build (1111). It is just the 12 bolt housing. It looks and sounds mean and is a blast to drive. No disappointments. Here are the details:

I have tried to describe everything in detail. Its important to me that anyone bidding knows what they are bidding on. Please look at the description and photos carefully. Buyer is responsible to arrange for shipping of car and additional parts. I can help load or deliver if nearby. Please let me know any questions and I will get back to you. Thank you!
Added: I noticed the hood looks a little high in a couple of the pictures - it just wasn't latched all the way and fits better than those pics show.
