Description:

1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS Resto Mod/Pro Touring 792 HP

This is an original Leeds built Forest Green/Green LS 5 Super Sport, with M22 4 Speed and 3.31 posi rear end. It was purchased by us, as such, but in recent years, underwent a complete professional frame off restoration (from 2004-2007), and transformation into the pro-touring/restomod car that you see here. It has just under 2,700 easy miles on it since restoration, has NEVER been raced, and has always been garage kept under a cover. Trips to distant car shows and events were always in an enclosed trailer. It has been driven very little in the last 4 years or so.
The primary restoration and conversion was completed By North Coast Rods in Ashtabula, Ohio, including the body and paint work, parts specification and assembly. Media blasting and sheet metal replacement/repair was completed by Multi Media Stripping, Inc., Pulaski, PA. All sheet metal that was even slightly questionable was addressed with extreme care and skill. The frame was smoothed and painted in POR 15. The engine compartment and body underside were painted and clear coated to match the exterior. Well over $150,000 was spent on this car. There is over $30,000 in the engine, transmission, and rear axle alone!
Highlights of the current components include:
- Custom built 555ci big block built by Lewis Racing Engines, Laytonville, CA - Naturally aspirated, 11:1 pump gas - 792 fwhp/700 #tq (engine dyno) - Dart Big M block, Callies Magnum crankshaft, Mahle pistons - Custom ported AFR 335 heads, custom solid roller cam, custom ported intake by Curtis Boggs at RFD, Isky Red Zone lifters (EZ Roll bushings), Jesel sportsman rockers, custom HP1000 carb from ProSystems, Accusump pre-oiling system - Stainless Works headers into custom Stainless Works 3 inch ceramic coated exhaust system (with X pipe), Pypes Race Pro Mufflers, and electric cutouts- G Force (GF-5R) 5 speed, clutch assisted transmission, with custom ratios, Long shifter- Custom spec'd Ram dual disc clutch, aluminum flywheel- Strange 9" rear end with Lenco billet locker, 35 spline axles, 3.50 gears, and extra bracing welded to housing for support - Global West control arms, front and rear- Hotchkiss rear sway bar- QA 1 adjustable shocks- Wilwood 4 wheel disc brakes - 13 inch/6 piston front, 12 inch/4 piston rear. Power assist via hydroboost. The car runs and drives as it should with no issues. It runs cool, even on humid 90+ degree days. It is EXTREMELY streetable, despite what the combination of parts and power level might suggest. The transmission takes a little getting used to (upshifts are a little notchy at low rpm, downshifts require a throttle blip, otherwise you will get a clunk/grind), but the transmission is easy to drive, all things considered. The clutch pedal is light and easy to push. The combination of gear ratios in the rear end and the transmission make for strong first and second gears, with third and fourth being a bit more tame. Fifth gear (1:1), is very street friendly at 60mph with the 3.50 rear end gears, cruise rpm is around 2500. The billet Lenco locker is extremely smooth in engagement - nothing like a traditional Detroit locker. There is no ratcheting noise, no banging noises, etc..
The ProSystems carburetor is extremely smooth as well. There is no bucking, and there are no idle issues. The car starts right up every time and runs consistently. It runs great on 93 octane. The engine was dyno'd by the engine builder in his shop, on pump gas, and showed no signs of detonation (I have the dyno sheets to share with buyer). We have had zero problems with pump gas on the road.
All regular maintenance has been done ahead of schedule (oil changes, valve lash adjustments, lifter checks, etc.). We have been sure to store the car with race fuel in it, as to avoid any corrosion problems from ethanol in the carburetor and fuel system.
Generally speaking of the entire car, all parts and labor are of the highest quality. All parts were selected very carefully, for quality, and to be sure they worked well together. Extreme care has been taken, in all respects.
As mentioned, it has never been raced. We built it to be able to withstand racetrack abuse, if we ever decided to take it there. However, we never did have the guts to take it down the track, with all of the time, money, and effort invested in it.
The car has won many awards at the shows and cruises we have taken it to, and it always draws a crowd. The paint in particular seems to stand out most to people who are drawn to the car.
Please note - the pictures above show the car with tailpipes on it. The tailpipes are not installed on the car at this time - in lieu of turndowns. The tailpipes are included in the sale, should you want to reinstall them.

Here is a walk-around video of the car: WALK AROUND VIDEO CLICK HERE Be sure to select 1080 HD resolution
Here is a startup and rev video. Please note, this video was taken in 28 degree weather, which is the reason for the "smoke". The engine does NOT smoke at all. The engine had been warmed up sufficiently after pulling it out of the climate controlled garage for this video: START UP AND REV VIDEO CLICK HERE Be sure to select 1080 HD resolution
Here is an in-car ride along video. Please note, this is the extreme of any driving this car has ever seen (and only a very small percentage of time). This video was done purposely to show the road manners of the car and driveline, in different scenarios: RIDE ALONG VIDEO CLICK HERE Be sure to select 1080 HD resolution
I also have a handful of pictures from the build process that I am happy to share, upon request.
There are a few very small issues that I am aware of (I am happy to send a video of these to any prospective buyer):
- There is a crack in the paint on the passenger side C pillar. It is approximately 2 inches long, and is on the curve of the pillar up to the roof. It is barely noticeable. I have to look for it, and I know exactly where it is. - The chrome power steering pump housing has some scratches and small dents- The power steering return hose has a very slight drip (not enough to even drip on the ground, after being parked for months- The oil pan has a very slight drip at the front of pan - not enough to drip on the ground, after being parked for months- The transmission tunnel has some paint chips/slight damage from clearance problems when new transmission was installed. All clearance problems have been fixed.- The transmission cross member has scratches and paint chips- The passenger side fender has 2 or 3 very small paint chips that have been repaired- The driver's side low beam headlight bucket is loose- The blower motor is not working- Stainless steel gas tank has some scratches near differential from ratchet straps in trailer- Exhaust turnouts (installed on the electric cutouts) have slight road rash Since the restoration was complete in 2007, we have driven this car less and less as each year passes. In the last 3 years, it has probably been driven a total of 300-400 miles. It was driven only one time last year. It is time for someone else to enjoy it.
