1955 Chevrolet Bel Air/150/210 Base Sedan 4-Door 2 Owner 43K Original Miles!!
1955 Chevrolet Bel Air/150/210 BelAir
Up for auction is my 1955 Chevrolet BelAir 4 door Sedan with 42,821 original miles!Wow! Thisoriginal and unrestored survivor still retains most of it original Sea-Mist green paint and is powered byits factory 265 V8 and power glide transmission. The interior appears to be untouched and all original down to the original tube radio which still works. The documented history from when it purchased new until nowtruly makes this car special.
Documented History:
Original Chevrolet Warranty & Policyreflects Purchased Newby May Bonfils at Viner Chevrolet, 5th & Broadway, Denver, Coloradoon July 9th 1955. May Bonfils Owner address is listed at her mansion on 729 S. Wadsworth, Denver, CO. She was a millionaire and heiress to the Denver Post fortune. Google May Bonfils Stanton to learn more.
Original Car Invoice from Rickenbough Cadillac Company, 777 Broadway, Denver,CODated July 2nd 1956 reflects Chester & Hazel Hance of Wheatridge, CO as the new owner and also reflects May Bonfils as the previous owner. Wheatridge is a suburb of Denver and roughly 20 minutes away from the first owners address. Pretty amazing.
What I know about the car:
As you can see its pretty much a one owner car. I purchased this carfrom the Hance estate sale back on December 10th 2016. Car is in the exact same condition as when I took possession so my knowledge is limited to receipts thatwere provided and what I noticed upon inspection.
Receipts: I have a receipt dated April 30th 2015 totaling $4500 in repairs and shows mileage to be 42,810. With mileage currently at 42,821 its only been driven 11 miles since then! Crazy. Repairs stated on the receipt are as follows: Overhaul brake system which includes front brake shoe set, front wheel cylinder, front brake hardware set, front brake hose, rear brake shoe set, rear wheelcylinder, rear brake hardware set, rear brake hose, &master cylinder.Rebuild carburetor, rebuild fuel pump, replace thermostat, replace radiator and all coolant hoses, replace onetransmission cooler line, replace fuel tank and sender, replace spark plugs, cap, rotor, condenser, & wires, time & tune engine, service transmission, clear out plugged fuel line, replace water pump, andinstall battery.
Upon inspection:
Interior:The interiorappears to beall original and in nice condition. There are very old seat covers on top of the original seats which I believe to be in perfect condition because theyare nice and firm and have been protected. The original tube radio works nicely. The heater blows nice and warm. The interior chrome and paint is nice as well. I could not spot any pitting or rust anywhere. The headliner is original and in nice condition. Glass is also in nice condition. Everything appears to work gauges, lights, etc. Overall condition is reflective and consistent of a carwith only42,000 miles. Only two opportunities that need attention. The wipers didn't work upon initial inspection and there is a dent on the metal dash that I think could be pulled out with paintless dent removal.
Mechanically: Runs and drives. Idles fine and drives smoothly. Accelerates and brakes fine. No exhaust leaks and no enginenoises. Suspension appears tight. Exterior lights all work.Only two opportunities that may need attention. Brakes may need to be adjusted and tires need to be replaced from age as they are cracking.
Body: Very solid car. Doors, hood, & trunk allclose nicely. I could only detect one spot of rust throughout the whole car. Itson top of the passenger side fender above the headlight. That's it. The Sea Mist Green Paint appears to be mostly original throughout and is heavily faded on the exterior and nice and shiny in the door jambs. The white paint on the roof, trunk and rear quarters appears to have been painted at some point later and not original to the car. The white paint has chipped on areas of the trunk and rear quarters and the sea mist green paint can be seen through. The exterior chrome is nice and there are no signs of rust or pitting. The panels and body lines are nice along the drivers side. The passenger side seems to have had a minor side swipe. possibly from the garage would be my guess as when I went to the residence to look at the car it was being kept in a small detached garage.
