If you follow me on eBay, FB, or Instagram, you know that I have always had a soft spot in my heart for the Chevrolet Silverado 454SS pickups!
I remember going into Sandy Lake, PA with my Dad when the truck first came out, and they had a black cover over with VHS videos of the truck playing on the showrooms small color TV. At the appointed hour, the manager pulled the cover off, and the small group that gathered to see it was mesmerized by everything from the mile-deep paint to the gleaming chrome rims. As much as my Dad loved it, he couldn’t use it in the Pennsylvania snow or haul the whole family around with it, so I had to accept that we would be going home without it.
Years later, and I have been fortunate to have owned over a dozen of these beautiful factory customs, from bone stock to the brutally customized performance editions like Black Beauty I & II. This particular 454ss is a great example of a well-maintained, great running, and low mileage machine that has just a handful of custom touches to separate it from a stocker.
The Onyx Black paint on the truck is in very good condition, and still shows shiny, slick, and reflective from all sides. Take a look at the 85 EXTRA-LARGE photos provided in the ad, and you can see that the paint still reflects like a mirror!
Yes, after 57,591 miles of driving, it does show some blemishes like stone chips, tiny scratches, scuffs and things, but as you can see in the photos and video, nothing that really detracts from the overall appearance of the truck. Probably the worst thing is that the clear coat on the driver side mirror and a tiny section of the top part of the roll pan has lifted, as shown in the photos.
You can see that it shines just as nice in the sun as in the shade, and I took the photos of the truck with my iPhone camera so you could get a clear picture of what it actually looks like, not some photoshop version of it.
Glass is in exceptional condition, including the functional rear slide window. No cracks, chips, or damage is evident, and a light tint has been applied that looks really nice.
All of the lights function and are crack free, including headlights, parking lights, hi beams, turn signals, fog lamps, and hazards.
Rear cargo light works too, but the chrome surround shows mild patina from sun and exposure.
Chrome factory wheels look amazing on the truck, and are in exceptional condition, including the center caps and lug nut covers.
Tires are basically new BF GOODRICH Radials, with under 1,000 miles on them, and they are size 275/60r-15.
Side trim pieces, emblems, badges, and blackout trim pieces are all intact, and show wonderfully.
Front lower spoiler has a few small little rub marks from parking curbs, but as you can see in the photos, nothing major.
Chevrolet and 454 decals on the truck are in great condition, with no issues.
Front license plate bracket is installed, and ready to use, and the rear roll pan has a cool plate frame that pulls out and up to reveal a hidden box hitch and wiring harness for a small trailer!
Overall, the outside of the truck presents extremely well, and easily turns at cruise nights and shows.
Pop open the hood and you are met by a stock powertrain that has not been modified or customized over the years.
The 7.4L 454ci V8 has been maintained and serviced with OEM items and has not been fit with any aftermarket upgrades or anything like that.
It is clean, neat, and shows quite well, especially considering I have not formally detailed the truck and this is how it came in.
It appears as though all components are intact as they would have been when it left the factory, and everything on the truck functions as it should with no known issues.
The truck starts easily, idles cleanly, and is ready to drive anywhere at a moments notice. It does not stumble, has exceptional throttle response, and pulls strongly through all speeds without any hesitation or hiccups.
It does not run hot, does not appear to have any functional issues whatsoever, and the oil and transmission fluid appear clean and correct.
Transmission shifts cleanly and smoothly through each speed up or down, and there are no odd sounds, stutters, or known issues with the operation of it.
It feeds power to the factory 12 bolt POSI rear end, which has no odd noises or issues, and the rear end spins the tire with ease if you let your right foot loose on the gas pedal!
Under hood factory decals all appear intact and correct, and show well, and the trim tag is intact on the firewall.
Open the tailgate, and the bed is original metal, with no ugly rhino lining or anything on it. It has a thick rubber mat installed, and does show marks and scuffs from being used as a truck bed over the years, but hey-it IS a truck, right? No damage, and no rust, rot, or anything like that. Just a bed that was used as a truck bed.
A clean aluminum frame tonneau cover is installed over the bed, and it allows the gate to open without having to unsnap anything. It is cleanly installed, and looks really good on the truck.
The chassis of the truck is clean, bare metal, with no gunky sprays or coatings trying to hide something. The metal does show normal oxidation from exposure to earth’s atmosphere, but it’s the stuff that just whisks away with a wire brush or strong pressure washer, and there is NO RUST, NO ROT, and NO BRITTLENESS to any part of the chassis or its components.
Suspension was fit with a STAGE 1 Belltech 2/4 lowering kit some time ago, including shackles in back and spindles in the front. It gives the truck a great stance, but doesn’t drop it so much it affects ride, handling, or clearance in any way.
The ride is OUTSTANDING on this truck, and I cannot stress enough how exceptionally well it drives and handles. There are NO rattles when driving, even over large speedbumps and things. The truck does not pull to one side, or have any tracking issues. It goes down the road quietly and smoothly, and does not have any odd vibrations or anything.
Ride is soft and smooth, yet firm enough to not wallow in corners.
Braking is smooth, sure, and solid, with no chatter, excess fade, or pulling, even under extremely hard braking.
It drives so nice, that I really can’t believe it is a 1990. It is just a great driving and great riding truck in every single way.
Open the doors on the truck, and you are met by a clean, stock interior that hardly shows signs of any wear, let alone damage or issues!
Carpeting is clean, neat, and damage free, and has thick rubber mats in place to keep it that way.
Door panels are both in excellent condition, and are damage free.
Arm rests, door pulls, manual lock, power lock switch, and power window switches all look fantastic, and work as they should too.
Door sill plates are clean, neat, and undamaged, as are the seat base and the seat belt covers.
Kick panels, A-Pillar trim, rear panel trim, rear storage cubby, and rear carpeted panels are all in excellent condition, and are damage free.
Headliner is clean, neat, undamaged, and is not sagging or loose in any way. Both visors are clean and neat as well, and fully functional.
Dash is clean, neat, and has no cracks, splits, or damage of any kind.
Switchgear is all intact, and looks great with no worn-off labels or anything.
All switches work as they should, including lights, radio controls, fog lamps, and A/C-Heat control panel.
I have no idea if the cassette player works, as I have no idea where I would find a cassette to test it.
Ashtray opens as it should, and shows no sign of use, and the truck has NO smoke odor, NO pet odor, and NO odor of any kind.
Glove box opens as it should, and all of the vents function and are issue free.
Gauges are all functional, including TEMP, OIL PRESSURE, FUEL, BATTERY, SPEEDOMETER, ODOMETER, and TRIP METER. Speedo is accurate to within 1.5mph when compared to GPS.
All warning lights come on as a test when you start the truck, and then go out as they should when no issue is evident.
Seats are in fantastic condition, and center buddy seat has a flip-down segment that has 4 cup holder slots, a storage area, and twin armrest pads. It opens up to reveal a large storage compartment, and flips up easily to accommodate a 3rd passenger. It includes a lap belt as well.
There are no rips, tears, seam pulls, or stains on the interior, and the seats move fore and aft like they should and have functional shoulder belts too.
Rubber seals and weather stripping on the truck is all in great condition, and is soft and pliable.
The truck comes to you with a clean, clear, and valid Florida title, color copy of original window sticker, original owner manual and paperwork, a number of receipts for maintenance and work performed over the years, and a stack of registrations from the prior owner showing the mileage track each year the car was registered.
It has a clean AutoCheck history report, and is ready for you to fly in and drive home wherever you wish to take it.

Mileage was listed as exempt on the title when the prior owner brought it to Florida due to the model year. The previous owner was not aware that he had to notify them of mileage status being actual, but the CarFAX, AutoCheck report, and mileage history from the included registrations all point to the truck having the correct mileage as shown.
