Description:
1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 RS
For sale is my 1969 Z28 RS, 302 4-sp. This is a Van Nuys, CA factory car that I bought out of a collection in Canada in 2003 sight unseen. When I received the car, the paint, interior and underbody were outstanding, as was the transmission and rear end. But the engine didn't run as it should. I had Jerry MacNeish inspect the car in 2007 to verify it was a real Z28, and it is. But that's when I found out about his services other than inspections. So Jerry's company, Camaro Hi-Performance, restored the following parts:distributor
Holley DZ carburetor
power brake booster
intake manifold
Hurst factory shifter
valve covers
The resto work was outstanding, and in the case of the intake manifold, valve covers, and power brake booster, those items will never dull, stain with gasoline, or get that chalky white aluminum corrosion on them. Really nice for a car that is not driven that often.
The MacNeish-restored Hurst shifter comes with the car, but I purchased a brand new Hurst shifter, and the car drives so much better with it.
Then I turned to Rick Stenhouse, Sr., father of the famous NASCAR driver, and his DynoTech shop in Memphis. Rick rebuilt the original 302, installing a brand new GM DZ crankshaft and dyno testing the completed engine. The engine was given a 3 angle valve job, bored .060" over, and the heads were cc'd. The engine pulled 356 BHP at 6700 RPM and 334 lbs-ft of torque at 4800 RPM. I have a video of the dyno pull, so send me your email address if interested. We did install a Petronic electronic module in the distributor to do away with the points.
The 302 engine and transmission are original to the car. The rear end is a 4:10 posi unit that was manufactured September 20, 1968, while the car was assembled the first week in February, 1969, so doubtful it is original to the car.
I have owned and restored three '69 Z28s, one '68 Z28 and one 70-1/2 Z28. This car runs and drives the best of all of them. It idles as it should, it has instantaneous throttle response, good brakes, the headlight doors open and close, the horn and back-up lights work fine. I had the turn signal cam and contacts replaced, but they don't work as well as they should.
The car has the plastic wood grained steering wheel, rechromed front and rear bumpers, correct new reproduction front and rear grey spiral shocks, all new exhaust, engine compartment completely repainted and detailed, black comfort weave interior, all new hoses and clamps under the hood, new RS headlight door actuators, new engine thermostat, new gas cap, new gas tank, sending unit and support straps, front brake calipers completely rebuilt, new front spoiler, new fuel pump, power steering pump rebuilt and new fan clutch. The reverse gear lockout is installed and works fine. The exhaust manifolds were silicon coated cast iron grey and will never rust. The starter motor and solenoid were rebuilt.
Factory options for this car include the following:
A01 tinted glass
B37 floor mats
D35 center console
D80 rear spoiler
N33 tilt-type steering wheel
N34 plastic wood grained steering wheel
N40 power steering

Z28 special engine and equipment (includes power front disc brakes, dual exhaust, 4-sp transmission)

Rating this car on a scale from 1 to 5, with 1 being a "perfect" car that is trailered, and 5 being a rust bucket, this car is a high 2.
The Hagerty Insurance value guide shows the AVERAGE price for a #2 car at $90,000 plus 25% for the rally sport option ($22,500) = $112,500. These prices are derived from past auctions and other sales data. The reserve on this car is way lower than that, but that does give you an idea of the investment potential!
Actual mileage is unknown.
Bid with confidence. This is a really nice car. Call Jack at 901-270-5656 with any questions.
Please don't bid unless you have the money to purchase the car. Thanks-
