Call or Text… 706-831-1899 Up for auction/sale is a 1954 Chevy 3100 pickup truck. This is a super nice pickup and not a trailer queen. The truck runs, rides, drives, and brakes excellent and everything works on the truck except the old AM radio. All of the gauge’s work including the fuel, temp, oil pressure, and volt gauge. The in dash choke and throttle work perfectly as well as the heater/defroster. The horn works and the turn signals and the interior light. It is a pleasure to drive, operate and own and this 54 Chevy will bring the new owners very much enjoyment as well! History: The original North Carolina owner of this truck owned it until he passed away just a few years ago. The truck was then owned by the original owner’s nephew for a couple years before he sold the truck to a gentleman in Tennessee. That gentleman owned the truck for about a year before selling the truck to me. The truck is said to have 40,000 original miles and from everything that I can see and tell that is most likely correct. However, you will need to judge that for yourself, just as I did. I am not making a guarantee of those miles being original… but there are many reasons that I do believe them to be original and I will point out my reasons in the following description. Engine/Drivetrain: The motor is the original 235ci in line 6 cylinder that came in this truck from the factory, as far as I can tell, and so is the transmission and the rear end. There are quality photos posted below showing the numbers on the engine. When I bought the truck it ran pretty good however after sending it over to my mechanic for a standard tune and service (on 1/25/2017), we discovered that the #3 cylinder had a burned valve. We decided to pull the head and basically rebuild the motor figuring it needed hardened seats anyway for today’s fuel. He pulled the head and sent it to the machine shop where they resurfaced the head and installed new exhaust valves, new valve seats (hardened), and new valve guides. My mechanic called me and told me that the rings and bearings looked really good and almost as if they had been replaced even though we know the engine had not been apart. This is one reason I do believe that those miles are original. He did not replace the rings and bearings. He got the head back from the machine shop+ and put on a new head gasket, put her back together and adjusted the valves. He also changed the oil and the oil filter, new points, drained the fuel and put a new flex hose on the tank, put a new fuel filter on at the carburetor, put on a new fan & generator belt (still a 6-volt system and works like new), he tightened the oil pan, tightened the exhaust manifold, checked and verified the output on the generator, lubed and repaired the e-brake, lubed the entire chassis and inspected all brakes, lines, fittings, and basically every nut and bolt. He serviced the transmission and the rear end as well. He also checked the radiator and serviced with new coolant. The inside of the radiator was as clean as a new one with no issues… which is point #2 as to why as I do believe those miles. The truck starts right up perfectly and runs excellent in every way and nice and cool with a new 4lb. and correct radiator cap. The oil pressure holds at around 40 even when warmed up and I wouldn’t hesitate to get in this truck and drive anywhere and everyday if I wanted to. It is fun to drive and goes straight and true down the road. Now as you probably already know the truck is basically a 45-50mph truck just like it was in 1954 when it was new. The underside has almost all of its original parts with the exception of new shocks (and some wear items). There is no rust and this truck has never been taken apart. It has always been a running and operational truck and it has always been serviced and cared for. And in fact, the nephew of the original owner told me that his uncle had kept this truck in his shop for almost its entire life. This is a well preserved piece of American history! Interior: The interior is mostly all original. The gauges are original and ALL ARE working as stated above. The glove box is original inside and in great condition… (and another yet maybe small reason that I do believe the miles are correct). The on dash throttle/cruise control and the choke cable both work perfectly. The original horn blows nice and loud and the steering wheel is original also, and in excellent condition… (the steering wheel says 40k miles to me, as you just don’t see many original steering wheels in this condition). The door panels and the headliner are original. The seat has possibly been recovered however if so it has been a while… and it is in excellent condition. The rubber floor mat is original and in wonderful shape and one more big reason to believe the mileage. Underneath the floor mat the floor is solid and firm and rust free including the battery box. The interior light works and with a nice original light cover. The old Motorola AM radio doesn’t play. Here is the big kicker for me on the miles and condition in regards to the interior anyway… The original rubber cab windlace is still in place around both doors and even at the bottom of the door and it is not brittle or dry! Honestly I’ve bought & sold a lot of these old trucks and I can’t even recall one that even had the original windlace. Also the heater/defrost works great. Body/Paint: The body is all original steel and rust free. There are some small dents and dings and the truck has been painted one time (approximately 12-15 years ago) however there was no bodywork done at that time. The single stage paint is very presentable and is buffed out with a real nice shine as you can see in the pictures below…. However, it IS NOT a show quality paint job. Upon close inspection you will find that there is some “orange peel” look in the paint as well as some small fish eyes and some “trash” in the paint. I would rate the paint as a 6 or a 7… the glass looks to be all original from what I can tell and all in remarkable excellent condition. The windows roll up and down very well and they are tight in what looks to be the original window felt and runners. This is another reason that I do believe correct miles! The stainless trim and the rubber around the glass all are original and in great condition. There is a little overspray around the edges of both from when the truck was painted. (the glass was not taken out when painted nor was the trim removed) … The bumpers front and rear are the original steel bumpers painted when the truck was painted as well as the original wheels and center caps that were painted then as well. The chrome grille was put in when the truck was painted and is not original. The original spare is mounted correctly under the rear of the bed. I’m not sure if the wood in the bed is original and restored or if it was new when the truck was painted…however the bed strips are original and painted. It does have radial tires. To summarize, this is a very interesting and very original 1954 Chevy 3100. The condition overall is excellent and as I stated above the new owners will absolutely love this truck. I have bought and sold many over the years and this one is probably my favorite. It runs, rides, drives, and operates great and it is a real pleasure to own and to drive. Its dependable enough to take on a trip or to drive every day if you want to. If you want a really good original pickup this is it. I can pick you up at the Augusta GA airport or the Thomson GA (small aircraft) …on almost any day except Sunday.
