1972 Chevy Malibu Chevelle SS Clone, Big Block, 4 Speed Muncie and 12 Bolt Axle
1972 Chevrolet Chevelle SS Clone
1972 Chevy Malibu Chevelle SS Clone, Big Block, 4 Speed Muncie and 12 Bolt Axle- No Reserve!!!!!
Great opportunity to own one of the great American muscle cars with NO RESERVE!! When this car was going down the road it turned heads like you would not believe. This car would make an outstanding driver quality hot rod with only a couple weekends worth of work or a fantastic base for resto-mod at an affordable price. This car is owned by my Dad (I am helping him sell it so any questions that you ask that I do not know the answer to may take a day or two to answer since I will need to talk to him) and he is only selling it now due to health issues that are forcing him to enter retirement earlier than expected.
Car History: My Dad purchased in 2004 from a couple who were going through a divorce and splitting assets, prior to them it was owned by a man who had several Chevelles and needed to get rid of one of them (it was this collector who led us to the car). When this car was purchased it was a complete, running driving car (see picture showing assembled car). The car has lived in a climate controlled garage since the day my Dad bought the car. Around 2008 my Dad was driving the car and it overheated and developed a rod knock. At that time we planned to install a LSX engine so we partially disassembled the front clip and removed the motor and transmission to check the fit of the LSX. It was determined that the LSX fit but caused steering interference issues. It was then decided to rebuild the 402 BBC that was taken out. The car sat for several years during this time. The rebuild was completed on the 402 BBC in late 2014 and installed in the car in 2015 but has not been fired since my Dad had health issues all of 2016. I would estimate that it would take me or my Dad (in better health) 3-5 weekends to complete the needed work to reassemble the car and get it going to the road. Many parts have been replaced or rebuilt and some very nice parts come with the car to complete the reassemble.
Overall Description: I would rate the paint overall as a 7 out of 10. It is an older paint job but still shines nicely when cleaned up. From a few feet away it looks fantastic but when you get up close there are imperfections (minor chips, surface rust below paint, a couple places with spider cracks – hood near the pins). I would rate the body overall as a 7.5-8 out of 10. The trunk, floor pans, quarters and overall body is very solid. The worst rust on the car is on the driver fender, but both fenders have some rust behind the wheel well before the door. There are a couple of rust spots (not through the metal) on the body beneath the paint. One is on the rear driver roof, one is in front of the driver rear wheel, one is behind the driver rear wheel and one is on the passenger quarter above the wheel well. There may be some other minor spots but I did not notice them. I would classify the interior of the car as an 8-8.5. Given the age it is really nice. There are/were some spots of mold that developed on the seat belts in storage but we cleaned a test spot and it appeared to clean away so I think it just needs a good cleaning.

A new Zoom High Performance Kevlar Clutch and Pressure Plate was installed with the transmission.
Rear Axle: 12 Bolt axle with Southside Machine upper control arms.
Included Parts: I believe everything needed to put this car on the road is included as it was a complete running and driving car when we got it and we have replaced or rebuild a lot of the mechanical stuff on the car. There are many additional new parts included to help with the reassembly.
Included Used Parts: Holley Double Pumper Carb (needs rebuild), fuel tank, classic radio, hood hinges, heating and AC parts that came with car (not complete system), Hurst Shifter, power steering pump, air cleaner, used radiator, inner fenders, full mandrel bent exhaust – header back, chrome mirror (not sure exact application – I prefer the sport mirror that is on the car), many small parts, etc. See pictures.
Included New Parts: Carter electric fuel pump, remaining ARP bolts for engine assembly, new polished Weiand Water Pump, Taylor plug wires, e3 plugs, A/C delete panel, rebuilt Holley Double Pumper 850, carb fuel line, fuel pressure gauge, Service Manual, Assembly Manual, Be Cool Radiator (Part Number 60008 - $600 all aluminum Made in the USA), etc. See pictures.
Known Issues When Running/Driving: Heat and A/C did not work (our intent was to install a Vintage Air system down the road), speedometer worked but was way off – assume this needs the correct speedometer calibration gear, and front bushings are worn and will eventually need replaced.

If paying by Cashier’s Check pick up must occur during Banking Hours as we will verify by telephone with the Bank that the Cashier’s Check is valid. Please do not take this the wrong way, I have had a couple of auto deals go bad and it took a lot of time and money to sort them out so I am very careful. Clean (original) and clear Illinois Title in hand. Car is sold AS IS WHERE IS.
Pick-Up: This item is PICK-UP ONLY in Mason City, Illinois 62664. Pick-up to occur within 14 Days of End of Auction unless other arrangements are made. I will attempt to be there during pickup to help load but plan on having enough help to load the car and the parts in case I can’t be there (both of my parents are not able to help load but can get you in the garage and direct you to all of the parts if I can’t be there). This car is not running and will need to hauled/towed away.
If you have questions please ask and I will do my best to get you an answer. I know buying a classic car over the internet can be difficult and because of this I have tried to provide lots of pictures and write a clear, accurate description. That being said everyone has their own criteria as to what condition is and what is acceptable to them so please ask questions if something is not clear or message me your phone number and we can discuss it over the phone. I also have over 100 additional pictures that I can send email if needed.
Thanks and Happy Bidding!!!!!!!!
