Description:

1966 Chevrolet Corvette Base Coupe 2-Door

If you are looking for a Mid-Year automatic Coupe in very nice driver condition at an affordable price then this is the Corvette for you! 1966-only desirable Mosport Green w/dark green vinyl interior. Repainted its original color in 2002. Numbers matching 327/300HP engine rebuilt at the same time. Now with about 5000 miles on rebuild (have receipts for paint and engine overhaul). Other than the repaint and replaced carpet this car is very original.
Options are as follows: A01 Tinted Glass All (windshield is a nice replacement - all other glass appears original with correct date codes), A31 Power Windows, K19 Air Inj Reactor (Calif.), M35 Powerglide, N40 Power Steering, U69 AM-FM Radio. Additionally has Repro '66 Knock Off Wheels. Trim Tag: Body #S4886 (St. Louis-built Body), Assy Date F28 (Feb 28th, '66), Paint 982AA (Mosport Green), Trim 430AA (Dark Green Vinyl). Some pertinent Part & Casting #s are: Engine P/N 3858174, casting date B116 (Feb 11, '66), Engine Stamp Pad 115183 (matches VIN) & F0222HR (Feb 22 - 300HP w/Auto & A.I.R.), Intake P/N 3872765 (w/A.I.R.) casting date B86 (Feb 8, '66), Exhaust Manifold P/N 3872765 (LH w/A.I.R.) & 3872773 (RH w/A.I.R.), Overflow Tank P/N 3155416 dated 66B, Powerglide Pan Stamp T1231D (Toledo Plant Dec 31st, dayshift), and Differential Stamp AK21566 (3.36 Ratio, Non-Posi, Feb 15, '66).
2002 saw a quality repaint during which doors, glass & all trim was removed (photo documented). Bumpers were sent out for rechrome. Body panels have bonding strips intact. The frame on this car is excellent, as you would expect from a California car. The A.I.R. option indicates it was sold new in Calif. I've owned it for 3 years and the 2 previous owners to me live in San Jose. I have registration back to 1985 from the 1st of the 2 owners prior to me which shows a license plate change from the orig Calif black plates of SYD102 to the current vanity plates "A66VETT". I haven't researched ownership prior to 1985, but it's reasonable to assume it's been in Calif since new because it had Calif black plates until 1985. Speaking of license plates, I will retain the current Calif vanity plates unless you are a Calif buyer and you want them, in which case I'll provide you with the necessary signed release paperwork after the purchase.
The K19 A.I.R. system is removed (i.e., the smog pump, distribution valve, and all plumbing and air injection tubing) except that the pump bracket, extra-groove pulley, and exhaust manifolds (w/plugs in place of tubing connections) remain. The old parts are in a box and come with the car, as does the orig Holley carb which is a specific P/N for an Auto & Smog-equipped car. The current carb is a look-alike Holley 4160 600-cfm but with electric choke. All ignition shielding appears to be original and is complete. 350HP finned valve covers are installed. Correct 300HP orange steel covers supplied to new owner. About the A.I.R., the Complete Restoration & Technical Guide '63-'67 states that only 258 A.I.R./Automatic cars (essentially all Calif Automatics) were built in 1966.
The paint has held up very well in the 15 years since the repaint. Just a few small blemishes including 1/8" chips on the driver's door and on the tail above the LH taillights plus a 1/4" light scratch on RH front fender fwd of the wheel opening. I believe the interior still has its orig seat covers, door panels, headliner and dashpad. Only the carpeting has been replaced to my knowledge. The driver's seat and door panel have small tears/cracks, and the headliner has about a 1" tear above the passenger seat. I would never change out any of the interior, it's very presentable the way it is.
This car starts, runs & drives fantastic. The acceleration is great for a base engine w/Powerglide. The power steering is nice - not overpowering - and you get good road feel at the wheel. The 4-wheel disc brakes are excellent - no pulling - stops straight w/no squeal, brake action is at the top of pedal travel, and there's no leaks. Tires are good with 80-90% tread, Wheels are the true knock-off style (repro) which you remove with a lead mallet (provided). The spare is a standard 15"x5.5" '66 Corvette wheel with a new tire.
Headlights fit well and work perfectly (motors and lights). Headlight alarm indicator works. Park brake & alarm indicator work. Power windows & all door latches, knobs, locks & wing vents all work great. Horn works. All lights work. Windshield wipers - both speeds - work great but washer is inop/not hooked-up. Heater/defroster/fan/vents all work. ODO reads 47680 (orig miles unknown) and trip reset works. All instruments work except clock. Speedometer reads about 10-15% low - i.e., 30mph reads about 26, 60mph reads about 52. Needle does not bounce and odometer is accurate - speedo just reads low. Orig radio works but FM only - AM band does not work. Power antenna is aftermarket - it retracts all the way down. It operates perfectly - extends w/radio on & retracts w/radio off or ignition shut-off but it is not the original power antenna.
This is a great-looking and great-driving Mid-Year. I don't believe it's ever been frame-off and in my opinion doesn't need it. Essentially just a repaint and newer carpet deviating from factory. Great one year only color combo. Matching numbers drivetrain and includes the last 32 years documented owner history. Original California car. Includes a nice car cover made for a Mid-Year Coupe.
I'm starting the bidding at a very low $38,000 with No Reserve. For those wanting (or willing) to buy an automatic Mid-Year Corvette that they want to still be able to drive without worry this car is the perfect choice. It was a hard decision to sell but I'm retiring next year, moving out of Southern Calif, and unfortunately this car just doesn't fit into my financial plans (I'll need the money). A lucky bidder is going to be very happy with this car. Like any classic car, it's highly recommended to inspect in-person prior to bidding. I live in Oceanside, CA (a San Diego suburb) and I would be happy to show it to you and let you test drive it prior to auction's end. That being said, please do not bid on the car if you can't or won't follow through with the transaction if you are the winning bidder. Please call me first if you have low or no successful bidding history or your bid will be rejected. car is sold as is, no warranty is offered or implied. Buyer to arrange for transportation and/or shipping, if needed. I can assist with your pickup arrangements or local drop-off to your shipper. Car to be for sale locally also and so I will reserve the right to end auction early if local agreement is reached.
Deposit of $2000 required within 24 hours of winning bid (PayPal OK). Remaining balance required within 7 days of winning bid via Bank-to-Bank Wire Transfer (preferred) or Cash (in-person only & during banking hours). Title is clear in my name. Car can be driven anywhere with confidence although I recommend enclosed transport for shipment to colder climates due to potential winter weather. Thanks for looking - Happy Bidding!

I was contacted yesterday by a fellow eBayer who said it appeared to him that the Trim Tag is a reproduction. I have no knowledge of this - it certainly hasn't been replaced since I've owned it. But that leaves 48 years prior to my ownership so anything's possible, I suppose. The Trim Tag essentially tells you the build date and body build location (St. Louis or A.O. Smith), as well as paint & interior colors. With a very-original appearing Dark Green interior it's unlikely to have been any other paint color than Mosport Green. Black and White were the only other paint colors with Green interior available and they had the full spectrum of interior colors possible and were also both rarer than Mosport.
I would never try to deceive a buyer about the equipment or condition of my car so it is in this spirit that I add this information. I stand by my detailed description. This is a great driver-quality car with nice paint and frame and matching # engine & date-coded major driveline components. Base-engined Powerglide Coupes are generally the lowest-priced Mid-Years in the collectable market. There is nothing for me to want to try and fake here. If you are looking for a Corvette of this type that is a great driver with a true California history then you will be proud to call it yours and just get in it and drive whenever you like. Happy Bidding - Kelly
