BEAUTIFUL SS! GREAT PAINT & INTERIOR, 454 BIG BLOCK, AUTO, A/C, PS, PWR FR DISCS
1967 Chevrolet Chevelle
1967 was a great year for the Chevelle, and when you find a clean hardtop like this, it probably makes sense to build the nicest car you can around it. Bright red paint doesn't hurt, either, because you want it to get noticed, and with a thumping 454 cubic inch big block under the hood, you can afford to have a little swagger on the street. The later Chevelles get a lot of attention, but in '67, the car was elegant, smooth, and restrained, and even in bright red it doesn't seem to be trying too hard. With a stock hood with those cool inserts to set it apart from all the cars wearing fake cowl-induction units, this very attractive Chevelle was nicely finished for the show field, but still knows how to have fun on the street. The bodywork is extremely well done and the paint, while not perfect, is pretty darned close; it's one of the nicest we've ever seen. No stripes or other add-ons, but it does have a proper SS grille and crossed-flag badges on its flanks, both a part of the SS package that also included a big block engine. The badges say '396' but today there's a bit more living under the hood, but the warning is certainly appreciated. The '67s are also neat because of their chrome details, including nice bumpers, a shiny grille, and some of the most attractive taillights of the era. Add in a black vinyl top and it takes on a more formal air and there are no signs of trouble living under the new top.Red upholstery works rather well with the red exterior, and it's a nice break from the usual black. It has been nicely restored to pretty much stock specs with beautiful new seat covers, door panels, and correct carpets. The bright parts and crisp detailing give it a like new look inside, particularly the SS steering wheel and nicely presented instruments, which are joined by a trio of auxiliary gauges under the dash. A console with a T-handle shifter looks great and adds to this car's performance credentials and you'll be surprised by how pretty a stock steering wheel can be. A digital AM/FM stereo radio slots into the original location and even uses original-style knobs so it really blends in nicely, and the A/C uses updated hardware under the hood. Even the trunk is conservatively finished with a black mat and a spare tire assembly with cover. So like I said, the badges say '396' but that's actually a newer 454 cubic inch big block that's been dressed up like a stocker. The extra 58 cubes certainly help with horsepower and with a 4-barrel carburetor and an HEI ignition system, it definitely has the moves to live up to its looks. There's correct Chevy Orange paint, a reproduction decal on the stock air cleaner (showing 325 horsepower), and big block valve covers in chrome, just as they should be. A TH400 3-speed automatic will take all the punishment the 454 can dish out, as can the 12-bolt out back, so don't be afraid to lean on the loud pedal now and then. The underside is beautifully restored, suggesting this was a frame-off job, and a new Flowmaster exhaust system sounds suitably aggressive for fun on the street. Factory Rally wheels look right and are fitted with Firestone redline bias-plys that are exactly right for a vintage muscle car.Nicely turned out and only a little bit sneaky, this is a great-running big block Chevelle that's ready to enjoy. The fact that it's red is only icing on the cake. Call today!
