1960 CHEVROLET NOMAD, IMPALA, BEL AIR, PARKWOOD, 4 DOOR WAGON VERY RARE!
1960 Chevrolet Nomad NOMAD
1960 CHEVROLET NOMAD 4 DOOR WAGONUP FOR AUCTION IS THIS BEAUTIFUL SATEEN SILVER CHEVY NOMAD. THIS IS A TRUE NOMAD, MOST PEOPLE THINK THE NOMAD'S WERE ONLY MADE 1955-1957 IN 2 DOOR MODELS. THE PACKAGE OFFERED IMPALA TRIM INSIDE AND OUT AND A MUCH LOWER PRODUCTION NUMBERS THAN THE PARKWOOD AND BROOKWOOD.
THE CAR IS IN AWESOME SHAPE AND HAS BEEN GARAGE KEPT SINCE PURCHASED NEW AT DON ALLEN CHEVROLET IN MIAMI FLORIDA.THE CAR WAS BUILT BY STREET HEAT IN MELBOURNE FLORIDA. STREET HEAT PURCHASED THE CAR FROM THE SOUTH 40 COLLECTION. THEY REMOVED THE 283CI V8 ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION FOR A COMPLETE DETAIL. AFTER A COMPLETE INSPECTION, RESEAL, AND DETAIL, THEY REINSTALLED THE ENGINE WITH A NEW 700R4 4 SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. A NEW WATER PUMP, FUEL PUMP, AND STARTER. SOME COMMON UPGRADES WERE MADE TO THE ENGINE NICELY CONCEALED WITHIN THE FACTORY APPEARANCE. GM C3 CORVETTE LT1 4BBL INTAKE WAS SOURCED, PETRONIX ELECTRIC IGNITION, EDELBROCK CARB AND POWDER COATED MANIFOLDS. IT RUNS AS GOOD AS IT LOOKS, AND WAS SPOTLESS INTERNALLY. THEY INSTALLED CUSTOM MANDREL DUAL EXHAUST WHICH EXITS OUT THE REAR THROUGH STAINLESS TIPS. THE NOMAD CRUISES EXCELLENT WITH THE NEW 4 SPEED OVERDRIVE 700R4 TRANSMISSION AT 80 AND IS SMOOTH AND CLEAN. THE NOMAD HAS VINTAGE A/C THAT WORKS GREAT, THE CAR ALSO HAS HEAT.
FOR THE STANCE AND SUSPENSION THEY WENT WITH AN AIR RIDE SUSPENSION USING AIRMAXX BAG PLATES, VIAIR 480C COMPRESSOR AND ELECTRIC VALVES, WITH A 5 GALLON RESERVE TANK. IT IS NICELY CONCEALED AND PAINTED TO MATCH HIDDEN IN THE SPARE TIRE WELL. THE SYSTEM OPERATES SEAMLLESSLY AND RIDES INCREDIBLE. AT THE TOUCH OF A SWITCH YOU CAN BE UP AT RIDE HEIGHT OR PARK IT AND LAY IT ON THE GROUND. THE WHEELS ARE 20X10 REAR AND 18X8 FRON BILLET SPECIALTIES STILETTOS WITH NEW TIRES. THE ENTIRE BRAKE SYSTEM WAS UPDATED WITH NEW C6 CORVETTE 13" POWER BRAKES IN FRONT AND NEW STOCK REAR DRUMS.
THE INTERIOR IS FLAWLESS, THE RED HOUNDS TOOTH IS PERFECT TO COMPLIMENT THE SILVER EXTERIOR. THE GLASS IS ALL IN AMAZING CONDITION! IT HAS THE RED PEPPERED CARPET WITH FLOOR MATS AND SAFETY BELTS UP FRONT. THE VEHICLE IS OUTFITTED WITH THE RARE PADDED DASH THAT IS IN GREAT CONDITION. THE CAR HAS A HIDDEN BLUETOOTH STEREO AS WELL.
THE BODY IS IN VERY GOOD SHAPE AND WAS REPAINTED YEARS AGO, I AM NOT SURE SPECIFICALLY WHEN. THERE ARE SOME MINOR FLAWS HERE AND THERE AND SOME VERY MINIMAL BUBBLING IN THE PAINT IN A FEW SPOTS. THE SATEEN SILVER EXTERIOR COLOR IS THE ORIGINAL FACTORY COLOR OF THE CAR. THE CAR IS REALLY NICE OVERALL AND STARTS AND DRIVES GREAT! I WOULDN'T HESITATE FOR A SECOND TO TAKE THIS VEHICLE ON A LONG DISTANCE DRIVE. THIS IS A VERY RARE NICE CLEAN CAR!
Power was a priority and the original 283ci V-8 was retained and upgraded. The StreetHeat team removed it., disassembled it., inspected the internals, put it back together, and then detailed it Reassembly included an aluminum intake with an Edelbrock 550-cfm four-barrel carb. The nostalgic looking two-barrel air cleaner was retained but modified to accommodate the new, bigger carb.Benefitting from the increased fuel/air mix, Power Pack heads replaced the originals for increased breathing, and spark flies from the modern MSD electronic ignition and billet distributor. Again, fornostalgic reason, they retained the factory exhaust manifolds but added ceramic coating for anupdated touch. The new 2.5-inch mandrel bent exhaust makes its way through the factory X-frame, over the rear axle, and exits at the rear. Alan Grove brackets were used to swap the original generator for an alternator and adapt the new Vintage Air compressor. A/C hoses were carefully hidden to keep the engine compartment clean. As a final upgrade, they eliminated the original two-speed Powerglide transmission and replaced it with a modern 700-R4 automatic.
The real personalizing process however, began underneath. While much of the Nomad chassis is still original, everything was inspected, worn parts were replaced, and all new bushings added. To give the wagon the proper StreatHeat stance, the first major mod was a full AirMaxxx air suspension kit with 2,600-pound RideTech bags on all four comers. To keep everything out of sight, the mechanicals for the air system were grouped into the spare tire well.Energizing the system is a Viair 480 compressor, 5-gallon reserve tank, and Air Lift actuators that feed through 1/4-inch lines. A Viair gauge on the dash monitors everything and rocker switches control the altitude. Stopping power was next, and the installation of Corvette C6 power brakes with 13-inch rotors up front, coupled with upgraded drums in the rear, gave the vintage wagon modern braking capability. Getting the car rolling in style are Billet Specialties Daggers 20xl0 in the rear and I8x8 up front Nankang rubber connects the ride to the asphalt with 275/30ZR20s in the rear and 255/40ZR 18s up front.
