Cliff notes: 1949 Chevy 3600. 79k mile 4.3V6 and 4l60e automatic, S10 chassis, new everything, wipers, air conditioning, tilt, cruise, full gauges. Old look, modern everything. Perfect for a shop runner, great truck for someone who wants the old farm truck look without banging or rattling or tinkering with carbs when the weather changes. This is not thrown together for a quick sale, I love making dissimilar stuff work together and have a very specific vision for the completed trucks. I am not a pro builder, just a hobbyist.
Please read the whole ad, I address most potential questions and I know its long, but I cant sum up this truck in 100 words. Be patient, read thoroughly.
Originally a grain truck with a flatbed, I found a matching patina bed and set of running boards. truck was shot several times with large and small caliber bullets, I have left the rear glass, and one bullet hole visible in the inside steel. I replaced front floor pans and toe boards with new replacement parts. I have patched other areas such as the drivers side windshield frame, the a pillars, the kick panels and one cab corner. there are still other areas that have rust and rust through, but none is structural or consequential. this truck will never win best of show but it will haul a load of lumber and drive very nicely.
The frame is 84 S10 longbed. The drivetrain, fuel system, electrical system, steering column, brake system, is 2003 S10. has EFI Vortec 4.3 LU3 MPFI engine, no spider poppets has fuel injectors. Engine and trans installed complete and unaltered with PCM and BCM. Has bussed electrical system and high pressure fuel system with plastic gas tank. Cruise control, daytime running lights, lights on bonger, 30 second dome lights, all features installed except door pins. stock S10 HVAC installed with 99 tahoe under dash blower assembly, works from factory S10 controls in glovebox. 4L60E overdrive trans with 3.08 rear pinion. power steering and disc front brakes.
New parts installed: inner & outer tie rods, idler arm, center link, sway bar and end links/bushings, front calipers pads and rotors, brake lines, master cylinder, 3" drop springs, Belltech nitro drop shocks front and rear, 3" drop blocks and 1" drop leafs, shortened and balanced one piece aluminum driveshaft, engine and transmission mounts, radiator, Wheel Vintiques 15x7 and 15x8 artillery wheels, Coker Classic radial wide whitewalls 205/75 and 235/75, Wheel Vintiques chevrolet center caps and trim rings, 2" billet wheel spacers, lug nuts, oil pressure sender, new distributor complete with cap and rotor, temp sender, 3 chamber headlights (for proper operation of DRLs) LED front turn signals and stainless LED rear taillights with plate light, fuel pump, fuel filter, air filter, rubber backed carpet and heavy jute under carpet padding, recovered (vinyl) bench seat from 88-98 chevy truck, new port engineering wiper system, windshield and windshield rubber seal, door glass and door glass felt and rubber seals, door glass channels, door seals, door windlace, running board gap seals, stainless mirror, outside door handles, front fender hardware, rear fender hardware, running board hardware, goodmark front floor pans and toe boards, goodmark transmission cover, borgeson collapsible steering shaft and u joints, drivers side valve cover gasket.
New parts not installed but included: S10 AC dryer and low pressure switch, AC orifice tube. New rear glass with new gasket and locking strip.
Runs and drives perfectly. Starts on the first turn of the key, no carburetors here, EFI and The Vortec 4.3l V6 has as much hp and almost as much torque as a TBI 350, so it accelerates smartly. effortless to drive in traffic, power steering is really light and smooth, automatic shifts perfectly. will idle all day. Your daughter can drive this. Your wife. Even grandma. drives like a modern car, quiet, smooth, easy. At 75mph on the highway the wind noise is lower than you would ever expect for a 1949.
Original 49 gauges with S10 gauges installed behind them. everything works, digital odometer, LED backlights. Original S10 cast aluminum steering column and brake pedal assembly mounted to heavy duty under dash bracket, no firewall flex. S10 steel bed floor and wheel tubs installed, has original cedar bed wood and bed strips installed over it. very strong. Passlock still works! Passlock is the ultimate anti-theft system, I did a 65 swap with passlock last year and it was stolen from the buyer a few weeks ago, he found it half a block away! I sanded and painted the frame black before installing the body.
Be aware: There is still some rust on this truck. Glovebox is really shallow (because of blower box) and has heater controls in it. Heater controls work backwards (cold for hot, hot for cold) and there is no fresh air inlet for the the blower. The vent distribution system has been removed (didnt fit) so those controls dont work and all air comes out at the drivers legs. there is one defrost line plumbed to the drivers defrost vent but it has very little output. All the seals are new and the truck is weather tight in most conditions, but it leaks like a sieve when washed. The AC is not charged, new parts are inculded to make that possible. The original gauges were heavily rusted so I dusted them with paint and wrote in my own speed numbers. its mainly accurate. There are dents and dings and other character marks, it would cost a small fortune to bodywork and fix this truck. I have two ignition keys and no door key, the passenger side is the only side with a lock. The 2003 fuel system has a shuttle in the gas tank that moves under pressure of fuel flow when putting gas in the tank. this one is dirty, it takes several minutes to put gas in the truck. this is from sitting empty for two years, it will eventually get better the more its used.
Also be aware: This truck is being sold AS IS and WHERE IS. The drivetrain has low miles but it could last a week or 10 years. I am not an expert in titling in your state but the truck will come with the following documents: 1. CLEAN 1949 3600 title, with VIN that matches the VIN in the door jamb, in my name, with odometer statement and selling price statement on reverse. 2. Bill of sale from salvage for frame with VIN and picture of VIN on frame under passenger door area. 3. Bill of sale from individual for 2003 donor drivetrain, fuel system, and ancillary parts. 4. Bill of sale with VIN for BCM/PCM, this is the VIN that will show on the OBDII port scan. These are the documents required to register the truck in Kansas, it is your responsibility to ascertain the requirements to register in your state. I am not offering any warranty nor will I be responsible for any other inspections or costs/labor to meet/pass those inspections. Put simply: you buy truck, you bought truck.
I have other receipts for most of the new parts listed above. I will include a troubleshooting guide including some assembly notes.
