1965 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe Bloomington Gold "SURVIVOR" Winner 45,641 Original Miles You are viewing a privately owned 1965 Chevrolet Corvette L79 Coupe "SURVIVOR"! Classic Cars Online is helping the owner with the presentation and listing of this outstanding vehicle. You will be purchasing this vehicle directly from the private owner who has owned this vehicle for the last 20 years. There are a lot of "C2" Corvettes out there to choose from. Most of them had some degree of restoration or modifications done to them. It is very rare to fine an "Original" Corvette that has achieved a Bloomingtom Gold "Survivor Gold" rating. This '65 Coupe still retains its original paint and its original interior. The drivetrain is 100% original with only 45,641 miles. This optional "L79" 327-350hp engine is coupled with the optional M20 4-Speed manual transmission. The vehicle also has the ultra rare and genuine Kelsey Hayes "knock-off" wheels along with the side mounted exhaust. Below, we will describe and go over the car in a detailed description. Please read and view all 94 pictures listed below. Would you buy a car on eBay with four pictures and one paragraph of description? NO. That is why at Classic Cars Online, our listings will go over and show every area of the vehicle that is up for auction. Bid with confidence! Vehicle's History: The vehicle was originally shipped to Edgewater Chevrolet in Cleveland, Ohio. It was then sold to a Mr. Bednar which was a General Motors executive. He sold the vehicle in 1967 with 17,000 miles to a husband and wife that took care of it for the next 29 years. They sold it to the current owner, which would be the third owner back in 1996 with around 43,000 miles. After 16 years, the current owner decided to have the Corvette judged by the fine people at "Bloomington Gold". So in 2012, the Bloomington Gold judges went over the vehicle with a fine tooth comb and awarded it with a "SURVIVOR Gold" certificate. The "Survivor" class is only for vehicles that are still original and are untouched. The original owner recieved a small gold "Corvette Owner" lapel pin from the dealership. This gold lapel pin was handed over to the next owner over the years. The new owner will be receiving this pin to carry on the tradition. Some Numbers: VIN Tag: 194375S113316 (The 13,316th one built) Trim Tag: H24 (Body built on March 24th, 1965) Style: 65 437 (1965, Body Style: Coupe) Body: S2442 (St. Louis Body Number) Trim: 420AA (Saddle Vinyl) Paint: 900GG (Glen Green) Block Pad Stamping: 5113316 F0316HT (VIN) (Flint March 16th 327/350HP & 4-Speed) Body & Paint: The vehicle still retains its original lacquer factory paint. The color is called "Glen Green". (Code: GG) The paint is holding up pretty well but has the typical cracking and checking from its age. See close up photos. Being it still has its original paint, it goes without saying this is a "No Hit Body"! All the original bonding strips are present and do not show any signs of being in an accident or repairs. This color was only offered in 1965, and there were 3,782 built with this color. There are a few stress cracks in the paint at the fiberglass seams which are common with most Corvettes. It does have some chips, nicks and other blemishes which have not been touched up. (Left in its true "Survivor" appearance.) The second owner had his "A.L.T." initials painted on the vehicle. We sure these can be easily removed even though the current owner decided to keep them to honor him. All four fiberglass wheel well lips are in nice shape and aren't cracked. Three of the four headlights have the original "T3" type of lights. The two original headlight motors operate great with no problems. Chrome & Trim: The stainless steel trim and chrome bright-work are all original. The front and rear bumpers are straight and free of any accident damage or scrapes. The chrome finish is in very good condition along with the rest of the chrome items such as the taillight/parking light bezels, emblems, door handles, rear view mirror(s), etc. The stainless steel trim is free of any major dings, dents or scratches. The two rocker panels are very nice without any dents or scrapes. The side exhaust covers look great without a lot of road rash or scrapes. Interior & Instruments: Looking at the interior, it's hard to believe that this is still the original interior. It is in great shape. The "Saddle" vinyl color scheme, (Factory Code: 420) goes perfectly with the dark green exterior color. The bucket seats show very minimal to no wear or other problems. The door panels are great and are free of any cracks in the vinyl cover or arm rests. The headliner is in excellent condition with no sags, holes or tears in the material. There is no sun or heat damage to the dash pads or the rear storage area. One of the only things we saw was some discoloration on the passenger dash pad. When we asked the current owner about it, he stated it was from the second owner's driving gloves. After removing his driving gloves, he would place them on that area of the dash pad. The oil/sweat from the gloves discolored that area. (He has the driving gloves. Cool story.) The instrument cluster and steering column are original and have not been modified. The kick panels show no aging or wear. The original carpet shows very little wear, fading or dirty areas. The door sill plates only show minimal wear marks. The steering wheel is original and is free of any cracks or any hand wear on the rim. The center console shows no aging of the accent trim and supports the shifter and an ash tray. The instrument cluster is in excellent condition. The speedometer, odometer, and tachometer along with the rest of the gauges are all working great. The rest of the electrical component including the lights, wipers, horns, radio, power antenna, heater, etc. are also working great. The factory clock works but does intermittently stop. The vehicle has the original AM/FM radio mounted in the center dash panel. All of the interior trim pieces are also in very nice condition. The chrome knobs, handles and dash parts do not show any pitting or problems. Storage Compartment: The storage compartment behind the seats is sporting all the correct items. It has the original jack, jacking tools and hold down spring. It also includes the lead headed "Knock-off" hammer that came with the original cast alumminum Kelsey Hayes wheels. The storage carpeted cover has all the original labels including the jacking instruction, positraction label and part number label on the underside of the cover. Glass: All of the glass is original including the windshield. They all have the factory dated codes and logos/markings. All pieces are in excellent condition with no chips, scratches, wiper marks, or cracks. The side windows go up and down without any problems or issues. The side vent windows operate as they should. Engine Compartment: The engine compartment on this vehicle has been left in its original natural "Survivor" condition. It houses the correct original matching number "L79" optional 327/350hp Special High Performance 11.0:1 compression ratio "HT" coded engine. (HT code: 327/350hp Hi-Lift cam, 4-Speed) Remember, this engine is all original and has never been opened or modified. The owner states he thinks even the valve covers have never been removed. Please view the photo below with the close-up photo of the stamped engine numbers. The original 4150 Holley (R2818A) carburetor still feeds this power plant. The correct ignition shielding, air cleaner, and fan shroud are all present. The hoses, belts, spark plugs, ignition wires along with the fluids have been replaced over the years. The original radiator was replaced with a date coded correct replacement. Wheels & Tires: The vehicle is equipped with the optional cast-aluminum "Quick Take-Off" wheels. (Option P48) These genuine Kelsey Hayes wheels are very rare and very desirable. (Big Bucks) They are date coded correctly and are in excellent condition with no corrosion, nicks, scratches or curb rash. These knock-off wheels have the correct three ear chrome plated spinners and stainless steel cones. They are also in excellent shape including the red/white/blue painted logo. Mounted on these wheels are four original looking Firestone bias ply whitewall tires. Size 7.75 x 15". These tires have the correct size whitewall stripe and show very little wear. The spare tire also has the original Kelsey Hayes aluminum wheel along with the factory original tire. The spare tire compartment, (bucket) is in good shape with no cracks or other problems. This is held in place with the proper hardware along with the correct optional spare tire lock. Undercarriage: Original unrestored and in its natural state. It has never been cleaned or played around with. This vehicle was never in any accident so the frame is straight and true. It is also very solid with no known weak areas. Nine times out of ten, people selling a car would not talk about or take any photos of the underside. The undercarriage tells you a lot about the car, that is why there are a few pictures of the bottom in the photo gallery. Please view them all and see why this vehicle is better then most. Mechanical: Engine / Transmission / Rear End: The entire driveline is original with matching numbers. This optional "L79" 327/350hp power plant starts easily and runs smoothly. It is very roadworthy and can be driven anywhere. Over the last 51 years, the engine has accumulated some oil and grime. Yes, a lot of this can be cleaned. Over the years, the owners have elected to keep everything in the true natural "Survivor" condition. The cooling system is stock with a belt driven clutch fan. The factory original Muncie M20 four speed manual transmission is bolted to this power plant. It shifts nice and firm using the stock chrome floor shifter. The shifter works smoothly and is a joy to run through the gears. The original date coded 3.70:1 posi rear end sounds good without any problems. Brakes: The vehicle retains its original disc brake configuration. The brake system received stainless steel sleeved calipers at some point over the years. The system is working great with no problems. The brakes do not squeak, pull, fade, or pulsate when the pedal is pressed. The parking brake is also working correctly. Suspension: The factory suspension components are all intact. The idler arm is the only component that the owner knows has been replaced. Unsure of the shocks. The vehicle has the correct stance and drives very nice. The steering wheel doesn't vibrate, and the car doesn't pull left or right. There are no rattles, squeaks, or noises. Exhaust: According to the second owner, the original owner had his dealership install the N14 side mounted exhaust system when the car was new. Everything points to this fact including the block-off covers on the rear valance. This is how the dealers did it back then. The side exhaust pipes are bolted to the original cast iron exhaust manifolds. There is no indication of any leaks or rust in the system. The system looks all correct with the original heat shields, hangers, clamps, and grounding straps. This optional (N14) "side mounted" exhaust system sounds great.
