During its 63-year history, the legendary Corvette has enjoyed immense innovation and success. From Grand Sports and ZR-1s to the beast they call the Z06/Z07, performance is something the Vette camp knows all too well. So that begs the question: what exactly does it take to make a Corvette truly collectible? Well, it's hard to answer such a broad inquiry, but we can tell you what makes this sweet C3 stand out from the crowd. For starters, it's a fully restored piece that's wrapped in traditional white on red aesthetics. It has plenty of power thanks to 427 cubic inches of Chevrolet big block. And last but certainly not least, thanks to a tough 4-speed, a 3.36 posi-traction axle and classic side-pipes, it's poised to provide an awesome drop-top driving experience. So, that brings us to the ultimate question: are you ready for a super cool Stingray?

BODYWORK/TRIM

Logging mostly weekend miles since it rolled out of a 6-figure, body-off restoration, this impressive roadster is a lust worthy rendition of a timeless American classic. The car's glossy white 2-stage has been carefully detailed with an LT-1-style hood stripe. Under that pigment, slick fit and finish is aligned to better-than-factory standards. And all that visual pizzazz is capped in fresh glass, factory stainless and traditional white vinyl.

With such a cleanly styled body, ornamentation could have easily ruined the C3's presence. Thankfully, Chevrolet did a great job of placing form over function and keeping brightwork to a minimum. At the front of the car, chrome-trimmed billet grilles center small parking lamps between a mirrored bumper and thin chin spoiler. Above that bumper, a cross-flag-branded header draws the eye to a chrome-trimmed hood that seats bold "427" emblems at the foot of a vacuum operated cowl. At the sides of that cowl, flush door poppers and a chrome driver's mirror perfectly complement silver heat extractors, classy "Stingray" emblems and polished side-pipes. And at the back of the car, a "CORVETTE" branded valance hangs 2-tone tail lamps and a chrome tag frame between a familiar cross-flag fuel filler and two more mirrored bumpers.

ENGINE

Tilt the hood and you'll find a buff, 427 cubic inch Chevrolet big block that's been painted, polished and fully rebuilt. Revs are created when a mirrored air cleaner floats wind in to a coated Holley 4-barrel, which bends polished stainless fuel lines over a coated Edelbrock Torker II intake. At the perimeter of that plane, polished valve covers hang a polished breather and polished oil cap over cast exhaust manifolds. Behind those pipes, a chrome-capped distributor shoots spark through sleeved plug wires. At the front of those cables, traditional V-belts spin a polished Edelbrock water pump and polished PROFORM alternator in front of a polished water neck and polished timing components. And at the front of those ancillaries, a beefy radiator plays well with a large flex fan and a familiar Harrison expansion tank. Naturally, the Chevy Orange mill looks right at home inside the Satin Black engine compartment. And details like chrome dipsticks, stainless hose sleeving and a chrome master cylinder mix first-rate looks with first-rate functionality.

DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION

Peer under this low-slung roadster and you'll find a familiar factory chassis that was completely stripped and thoroughly sandblasted during the car's extensive restoration. The stout big block twists torque through a tough Muncie 4-speed, which spins a posi-traction differential around fun, 3.36 gears. Beneath that drivetrain, a fully rebuilt suspension employs modern power steering. At the corners of the car, a quartet of red Wilwood calipers squeeze a quartet of drilled and slotted rotors. Aluminized down-pipes shuttle spent gases through the aforementioned side-pipes. And all that high quality hardware rolls on chromed American Racing Torq Thrust IIs and 215/70R15 BF Goodrich Silvertown Radial redlines.

INTERIOR

Slip in to this Stingray's vivid interior and settle on pliable leather buckets that are dressed in factory lap belts. A '68 Corvette dash founds an array of black-trimmed telemetry above a modern, direct-fit radio. At the base of that dash, a tapered console frames a familiar chrome shifter. Below that console, "CORVETTE" branded floor mats split the difference between stainless-trimmed foot pedals and color-keyed carpet. At the edges of that carpet, weather-free door panels hang simple stainless hardware in front of factory power windows. A tilting column spins a sporty, satin-spoke steering wheel. And behind the passengers, a small storage compartment reserves enough room for a pair of car show chairs.
