Start talking vintage sports cars and the second generation Stingray is almost always directly referenced. Offered in two body styles, and equipped with engine options that spanned 149 cubic inches, the C3 was capable of satisfying nearly every gearhead that took interest. And that legacy of universal appeal has continued for over 60 years, giving fans and aficionados the parts and inspiration to enjoy their favorite car pretty much indefinitely. Take this '69 coupe, for example. Thoughtfully rehabilitated during a ground-up restoration, this tastefully detailed Chevy turns a universally appealing platform into a Main Street super star. If you're ready to hit the road in a brash, head-turning classic, check out this stunning Corvette!

BODYWORK/TRIM

'All Corvettes are red' is a common generalization. 'Yellow Corvettes are the epitome of American motorsports' is reinforced by Team Corvette's continued racing success. But, it's certainly hard to argue that black Corvettes don't look awesome. The beneficiary of a quality, ground-up restoration, this sinister C3 presents correct Tuxedo Black pigment that, thanks to a late NASCAR super star, enjoys a natural association with both Chevrolet and success. Step close to the car and it becomes very obvious that its fiberglass body has been carefully prepped, as there are no bonding seams visible from any angle. Further examination reveals headlight doors that fit well, lines that are crisp, and aggressive fenders which show no signs of rounding from an overzealous sander. And presently, thanks to excellent finishing work, this Chevy is one slick classic that looks almost as good as the day it rolled out of the paint shop!

With such a cleanly styled body, ornamentation could have easily ruined the C3's presence. Thankfully, Chevrolet did a great job of placing form over function and keeping brightwork to a minimum. At the front of the car, chrome-trimmed grilles center small parking lamps between a thin bumper and subtle chin spoiler. Above that mirrored brow, a cross-flag-branded header draws the eye to a chrome-trimmed hood that seats bold "427" emblems at the foot of a vacuum operated cowl. That hood reflects an array of clean glass that's framed in straight stainless trim and factory-spec T-tops. At the sides of that glass, flush door poppers and classy "Stingray" emblems perfectly complement a chrome driver's mirror and satin rocker guards. And at the back of the car, a stainless-trimmed, "CORVETTE" branded valance hangs a chrome tag frame and 2-tone tail lamps between a cross-flag fuel filler, thin bumpers and polished exhaust tips.

ENGINE

Beneath the sculpted hood you'll find an original, 427 cubic inch big block that hangs a correct 3963512 casting number behind a familiar Tonawanda (T) assembly stamp and matching partial VIN. Straight from the factory, GM's top-option L89 (LR) V8 utilized high performance internals to twist stout 11 to 1 compression into an even 435 horsepower! At the peak of the pavement-scorching mill, a polished and decaled air cleaner swirls wind in to a correct Winters intake by way of familiar Holley carburetors. At the sides of that plane, cast heads hang stamped and polished valve covers over old school, cast exhaust manifolds. At the back of those heads, chrome-capped ignition sequences spark through sleeved plug wires. And in front of those wires, era-correct smog equipment frames a beefy radiator. Naturally, ancillary components are top notch in every way, with GM-branded hoses and a rust-free brake booster accompanying stainless fuel lines, reproduction tower clamps and a rebuilt Delco-Remy alternator. And bright Chevy Orange engine skin is seated in a clean, Satin Black frame.

DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION

Peer under this low-slung roadster and you'll find a familiar factory chassis that's straight, solid and ready to roll. The car's stout big block twists torque through a tough Muncie 4-speed, which hangs a 1969 (9) Muncie (P) M21 (B) assembled on October ( R ) 11th, (11) 1968 build stamp behind a 3925661 casting number and matching partial VIN. That fully rebuilt transmission spins a fully rebuilt differential. Beneath that drivetrain, a fully rebuilt suspension combines optional power steering with power-assisted disc brakes. Aluminized pipes shuttle spent gases through throaty turbo mufflers. And all that high quality hardware rolls on handsome Rally Wheels, which spin F70-15 Firestone redlines around polished trim rings and turbine center caps.

INTERIOR

Slip in to this Stingray's conservative Black interior and settle on correct vinyl buckets that are dressed in tight, weather-free hides. A familiar dash founds an array of black-trimmed telemetry above a modern, direct-fit radio. At the base of that dash, a tapered console frames a factory shifter. Below that console, "CORVETTE" branded floor mats split the difference between stainless-trimmed foot pedals, factory shoulder belts and like-new carpet. At the edges of that carpet, weather-free door panels hang simple stainless hardware in front of factory power windows. A tilting column spins a sporty, satin-spoke steering wheel. And behind the passengers, a small storage compartment reserves enough room for a pair of car show chairs.
