OK Guys I really hate to let this one go but need the cash to build a new garage.Jimmy Baker bought this car in 1961 he was only 13 and had to get his mom to fill out the paperwork for him. The car was all stock but not for long. It was originally aqua blue and white but he started customizing it. He had over 15 different engine and trans combos in the car over the years. He used the car to drive to school and work take his girl out on hot dates but he also raced the car and ran some moonshine in it. In the late 60's my dad was just a teenager and this car was the fastest car in town with a bored out 327 and 4 speed. he had a couple different pumpkins for the car and would change them out to race on weekend and back again before Monday to drive to work. When he started to run moonshine he rewired the entire car and built a custom dash panel with switches so he could turn the lights brakes tail lights interior lights and all on and off individually. He also rigged up a switch for the interior lights when he open the door so they would not come on unless he wanted them to. There is a round speedo and tach out of a 60's Corvair that he mounted in place of the factory one and it looks original there is also manual gauges mounted in the dash for oil temp volts amp and even a hour meter and they all work. The tach isn't hooked up nor is the speedo but cable windis there. The seats are out of a 62 SS impala and fit great. The car was parked in the early 80's for a resto and didn't see light of day until 4 years ago when I bought it out of his garage. The car was still sitting on the Fenton wheels and tires from the early 70's and still held air.
I bought the car with no engine or trans it did have a 283 and Saginaw 4 speed but he wanted to keep it. I installed a rebuilt newer 350 that has a large hyd cam alum intake holley dual line and hei dist and it runs and sound great I also installed a Muncie 4 speed and shifter that were rebuilt at a swap meet with a new clutch set. The car still has the headers and bolt on truck mufflers that were on it in the 70's and sound good with no holes. I installed all new brakes brake lines fuel lines gas tank and sending unit and gas gauge works. The head lights tail lights brake lights blinkers interior lights all work. The wiper motor in in place but doesn't work. The front windshield is busted and one of the side glass is cracked. All the windows roll up and down good and the door flappers still work. I have most of the side chrome and new clips to attach and I have a new grill and box of extra used parts. The body is in pretty good shape. All floors are solid except on both sides where your feet go in the front has some weak spots. The trunk is very solid even the tire well. Both quarters have had some repair work with some bondo. The rear tail panel behind the trunk lid has had repair as well but no holes. The rockers are solid but like they were repaired at some point as well. The doors have no rust in the bottoms at all that I can find. The headlight area where they all rust is perfect with no previous repair. The fender and the rear bumper came off my neighbors car. It was a blue nomad that he totaled in 1970 and the fender and the rear bumper where the only pieces left on the car that were any good. The driver fender still has the holes for the nomad chrome but I don't have the chrome. I do have the rear bumper and brackets but it needs to be rechromed.. The car still has the wonderbar radio as well but there are no speakers he said it worked when he parked it. I also put new rocket racing front wheels and tires and the rear wheels are 15x7 off a 57 corvette I was told. It has front springs out of a station wagon and has had extra leafs added in the back so he could carry lots of shine and not ride too low in the back.
This car needs a lot to be perfect but it is a awesome cruiser as it sits. I have had it running for about 6months and have driven it to the corner gas station twice and did some burnouts. it starts up and runs great and drives good the steering seems to be tight. The shifter is used it needs to be adjusted it doest go into 3rd gear some times it doesn't make any noise or grind it seems that there isn't enough travel on the shifter maybe it needs bushings? If you wanted to make it perfect all the interior would need to be replaced it still has the plastic cover installed on the back seat that he had installed in the 70's the seats sit very good. It wouldn't take a lot of body work to get it ready to paint there is a few dents in driver quarter and a ding here or there but there are no major rust holes or bubbles. I had a body guy sand it down to bare metal and weld in a few patch panels knock out some dents and spray it in primer with a sealer in case you want to drive it as is the water beads up and doesn't penetrate to the metal so it wont rust the primer was $100 a gallon. All the chrome around the windows looks good I do have the small corner trim that is missing around the back window that is new.
I really hate to get rid of this car but it has to go. It was a legend in middle TN and has lots of really neat history. With that said I'm not going to give the car away I know it would take a lot to completely restore but you can drive it as is now and have a lot of fun but its still a 55 2dr hard top bel air and they are getting hard to find. I do have the car for sale locally and I may end the auction at any time for any reason. I do have a clear TN title in my name. IF you are serious call me at 615-504-8288. I have tried to describe the car very accurately and strongly suggest that you come inspect any car before you purchase. I will be glad to help out with shipping in the US or internationally ad be open to any third party inspectors.
I require a $500 non-refundable deposit within 24 hrs of the end of the auction and the remainder to be pain in cash or by wire transfer only.not looking for any trades but you can try. I like chevelles 32 ford 5 windows and most all 60's muscle cars. I need to cash to build a new garage. If the car doesn't bring enough it will stay where it is it is paid for and I don't have to sell it.
Good luck and happy bidding
