The previous owner told us he just rebuilt the engine so the interior has already been restored and looks awesome so with a some paint and body work this Corvette would be ready to go and quite valuable. Years after were more at the mercy of insurance companies. fuel prices. and emission concerns. 1972 is considered the last "good" year. It was also the last year to feature a pop out rear window. and the first year that the way horsepower ratings are measured changed from gross to the more accurate net. As in investment. the 1972 will always have an advantage and out perform other years because of its precedence as the end of a a very great period for Corvette and muscle cars as a whole. numbers Please note when checking the numbers that not only do the correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts. but all of the dates are also chronologically correct. This means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the correct order. For example. all of the dates for the individual engine components and the engine casting date should obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the parts had to be produced before they could be assembled. All of the parts I checked follow this rule and are dated correctly. item number description* VIN 1Z37K2S512589 The first digit. "1. quot; indicated the Chevrolet division of GM. Colvin's Corvette by the Numbers and Mike Antonick's Corvette Black Book. condition Exterior The exterior looks in person just as it does in the photos. Obviously this Corvette could use paint and we have done our best to show all of the flaws. We have been very objective and comprehensive with the dozens of photos of the outside of the car. We have not tried to exclude any imperfections. most sellers and certainly most dealers would not be so upfront. We have even included many photos of the underside of the car. These is some rust and evidence of rust repair in the past. As with many Corvettes of this era the windows could use some adjustment. which is something that should be done if the car is painted anyway. the left window needs help when it gets near to top. The factory rally wheels are in good condition with a nice finish and still retain the correct original 4-clip beauty rings. not the cheap replacements you often see. The tires have about 70% tread left; they are correctly sized 225/70/15. The exterior of this Corvette does need attention and we have priced the car with its cosmetic needs in mind. Window Date Codes Please note that the "Astro Ventilation" side glass and even the pop out rear window on this Corvette are date coded and original as each piece predates the car's body build date of January 28. 1972 (F28). Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no major accident history and never sustained significant damage. Interior The Saddle interior of the Corvette is in very nice condition; the interior has been almost completely restored. The seats look virtually brand new with no rips. splits. or signs of any wear. Please note that the seatbelts have been replaced and all four retractors are working properly. Also. the previous owner spent the extra money for the correct lap belts and shoulder belts with retractors and the correct buckles. which are very expensive. The carpet is also in "like new" condition with no stains or holes and was installed with the rest of the interior restoration. This included the rear carpet. which is often neglected. The console and dash are in great condition with no cracks. fading. or sun damage. The door panels are in nice shape with no splits or cracks; they are not worn in the typical are where the driver rests his elbow. The door pulls are solid and intact. This car has no aroma of cigarettes whatsoever. The aftermarket radio does not work. but most importantly the original dash was not cut for the installation. The door handle and lock knob for the driver's side are included with the car and pictured below. Mechanical This Corvette seems to be in generally good mechanical condition. It starts right away every time. runs well. and idles well. The car is a fun driver that feels nice the road and at highway speeds. In the video below one can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph. braking to stoplight. and going through some curves. Please note that it shifts well. there are no strange vibrations. the brakes do not pull. and the car performs quite nice overall. We were told by the previous owner that he just rebuilt the engine last year so it runs awesome. The transmission shifts smoothly. The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other. This Corvette has plenty of power and is quite fast; it is definitely quicker than a stock Corvette. There are some items on the car that do not work such as the horn and clock. All of the other gauges. speedo. tach. odometer. temp gauge. oil pressure. battery gauge. and fuel gauge all work properly. We have put about 10 miles on the car since we have owned it and it preformed quite well in that time. but there may be some other mechanical bugs that could be worked out. The blower motor for the heater and a/c work on all speeds except high. The a/c systems is complete with the compressor. condenser. and all lines. but there is no belt on the compressor and the a/c does not work. The headlights pop up and vacuum system for the lights works correctly from both the switch on the dash and override switch; their operation from both switches can be viewed in the video. The wiper door does not work. which is a common problem on chrome bumper Corvettes. The wiper motor works and spins with the switch. but the wipers have been disconnected since the door is not functional. The true dual exhaust system is completely new from the manifolds back with stainless steel Magnaflow mufflers and has a very healthy tone. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car. especially with T-Tops and rear window out on a beautiful day. Overall Condition Overall. this 1972 Corvette is in decent driver condition. has a ton of potential. and is absolutely priced to sell. The engine runs great and the interior is has been almost completely redone so with some paint and body work this Corvette would be ready to go and would probably sell in the low $20k's. Numbers matching is extremely important in Corvette pricing. There are photos below of the WIN stamp on the engine block. suffix code. engine assembly date. and transmission codes. In my opinion and based on our experience the "Chrome Bumper" cars from 1968-1972 are the most collectible and hottest in the entire Corvette market right now and out of those years 1969 and 1972 are the most desirable. The value of these cars has gone up exponentially in recent years. They are all solid investments for a collector. This Corvette always gets a ton of attention driving down the road. These Corvettes are secure and wise investments for a collector. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.
