CALIFORNIA NOMAD, LAST YEAR MADE, ALL-ORIGINAL INTERIOR, HIGH-END RESPRAY, CLEAN
1972 Chevrolet Chevelle Nomad
This 1972 Chevrolet Nomad station wagon is a remarkable artifact that has been preserved as it was originally rather than modified. Heck, it's still got a six-cylinder engine under the hood! A super clean California car with a fantastic recent paint job, it's a high-quality car that could be shown at any level with pride. You just don't see station wagons like this anymore. Sure, they once roamed the countryside like buffalo, but like those buffalo, they have seen rapidly diminishing numbers over the years. Nobody thought they'd be collectors' items, right? Fortunately, out in California, sheetmetal seems to last forever and this immaculate Nomad was discovered and treated to a quality restoration to stock specs in 2009. Heck, the paint job alone coast $12,000! It accurately re-creates the original Sunburst Yellow that gives it a very sunny disposition (no pun intended). The bodywork is shockingly good, with four doors that fit well, a big hood that sits flush, and the tailgate opens and closes without a lot of effort. One glance down its flanks should be all you need to see to determine just how laser-straight this car is and the fact that it survived with its original engine intact should count as some kind of miracle. The basic black vinyl interior is the same kind of place many of us spent our childhoods, and for that reason alone it should be a desirable car to own. The wide bench seats wear original seat covers, there are factory floor coverings front and rear, and the basic interior is the kind of no-frills transportation that served many families for decades. Yes, you read that correctly, that's a 100% original interior! There's massive stretch-out space front and rear, with a cargo bay big enough for a trip to the Grand Canyon for a family of six, and it's in beautiful condition throughout. The original gauges are still there and are only a little faded, but that's the biggest criticism we can level against this car. The 55,661 miles showing on the odometer are correct, so that will give you some idea of the easy life this car has led, and with tinted glass all around, it's actually a pleasant place to spend a few days sightseeing. This is one heck of an impressive survivor.Remarkably, this vintage station wagon is still powered by its numbers-matching 250 cubic inch inline-six. It would be easy to underestimate the six, but it moves the wagon without seeming to work too hard and you'll appreciate its thrift at the gas pumps. It's freshly rebuilt and wearing a fresh coat of Chevy Orange paint, along with all its original equipment, including a rare California emissions control system. All the little stuff, from the hose clamps to the plug wires, are as accurate as possible, and if you want to get folks doing a double-take on your car, all you have to do is open the hood on this wagon. It's backed by a 3-speed manual transmission and a 10-bolt rear end with highway-friendly 3.36 gears, so it really doesn't mind long distance running. The chassis is California clean with a fresh exhaust system and a recently cleaned gas tank, so it's ready to roll. And speaking of rolling, it sits on color-matched steel wheels with dog dish hubcaps and correct G70-14 blackwalls for a bare-bones look.We love this car and there's just no way you'll ever find another one like it. If you like wagons, survivors, and unusual finds, this car wraps it up in one gorgeous yellow package. Call today!
