Description:

1963 Cadillac DeVille Series 63

Offered for bids is a 1963 Cadillac Sedan DeVille Series 62, that has been in the same family for 57 years. Purchased as used by my father (the second owner) in 1966 from H.B. McDaniel Cadillac, Houston, Texas. As a lifetime auto mechanic and working at McDaniel Cadillac, he maintained this Cadillac accordingly. He used this Cadillac as his daily driver for 25 years, sheltering it on this covered driveway. During this time, it accumulated 86,000 original miles. Apart from the front bench seat, damaged by a large tear in the late 1960s, which was replaced by a 1964 model power bench seat, the car remained as an original survivor.

In 1991, I accepted the car from my father and brought it to our home in Detroit, Michigan. Until 1995, only sympathetic wear, tear and maintenance items have been replaced. The Benton Blue Metallic paint had suffered for years under the Texas sun, so a full repaint of the original color was performed.

In 1997, an engine rebuild to replace aging gaskets and seals was completed, with a rebuild of the factory 3-speed automatic transmission. Both improved reliability and drivability. Note that engine displacement is unchanged.

The last major service was in 2018, which included a complete front and rear suspension rebuild with OEM parts and components. This Cadillac is enjoyed only during summer months on dry and sunny days. The odometer shows 89,261 original miles – reflective of cruise nights and short local trips.

Worth noting is the replacement AM/FM stereo with aux inputs playing through two original front and rear speakers, a free spinning AC compression that blows cold air and the addition of color matched seat belts. The original spare tire, jack and trunk trim are still in very good condition.

This family heirloom is available for bids.
