In the late 1980’s, if you wanted Italian styling, low-end V8 grunt, and a smooth ride, your best option was the Cadillac Allante. Introduced in 1987, this striking coach-built convertible was aimed at competing with European icons such as the Mercedes SL and the Jaguar XJS. The bodies of these stunning cars were sculpted by Pininfarina in Italy, then sent to Detroit for final assembly. Such combinations of build involvement harken back to the 1930’s when coach building was at its peak. Unlike its competitors, the Allante was front wheel drive compared to rear wheel. The one big positive with the Allante’s FWD package was the use of traction control, the first of its kind for American front-wheel drive cars.
The first 2 years of Allante production, the cars used a 4.1 Liter V8 that produced an underwhelming 170 horsepower. By 1989, the 4.1 liter V8 was upgraded to a 4.5 V8, churning out 200 horsepower and 270 lf/ft of torque. Another new feature for 1989 included a speed-sensitive damper system, which stiffened up the handling at incremental higher speeds. These technologies carried over into 1990, along with its elegant color options. Throughout all years of the Allante’s production run, Pearl White was one of the most popular colors, and rightfully so. In 1990, this Pearl White example was one of 1,006 cars sprayed that color, nearly 1/3 of all Allante production that year. Between 1987 and 1993, 6,151 of the 21,430 cars were Pearl White, making this color truly iconic for the model.
This beautiful Allante in Pearl White over Natural Beige leather was designed by Pininfarina has the uprated 4.5L V8. This vehicle was originally purchased at Lockhart Cadillac by the current owner’s father. The vehicle has been well kept throughout its life. When looking for an Allante, you’ll quickly find several items to search for of high importance such as the hardtop and original ceiling hardtop winch system both of which are included with the vehicle. You’ll also find original owners manuals, original window sticker, door and ignition key codes and cut numbers, and copies of service from the last several years.
This example is one of 1,006 produced in 1990 and total production of 6,151 in Pearl White from 1987-1993.
