1949 Cadillac Series Sixty-Two... Touring SedanThis 49 Cadi starts and runs so well it is hard to think of the engine and transmission as original...but they are!Cadillac was Proud to show off that 1949 First Year release of the all New 331 cubic inch displacement V8 engine, and rightly so.
John Bond in November of 1949 declared the Cadillac its First Ever... Car of the Year..in a new but significant publication, named.. Motor Trend.
The competition had been narrowed down to Oldsmobile with their new V8 and Cadillac.
The 49 Cadillac was chosen over the Oldsmobile that year due to the fact the Cadillac had 10 percent more piston displacement than the Oldsmobile and develops 18.5 percent more horsepower. I am sure the historical importance the automotive industry played in cultural development is not often thought about.
Consider this:
On January 17th 1949, the first VW beetle arrived in the US; that year, there were only 2. Yes, that's TWO cars that were sold in America, convincing the VW chairman the car had no future here in the US. The bumpers are painted soft black, primarily because I always wanted to see the car done that way. I like it...but, you will be amazed how many will stop you to say how much they love it. Pictures just don't show it off correctly.
Should you prefer chrome, I understand. They do not charge a penny more for painted bumpers, as the process to re-chrome requires stripping the old chrome anyway.This is a great car. No regrets in owning this one.
