Description:
1964 Cadillac Series 62 6-Window Hardtop
Original numbers matching car. Motor and transmission have been rebuilt with new old stock Cadillac parts.Minor body work and repaint would be required for a pristine car. Original interior is in excellent condition with only one small rip in an upholstery seam in the driver side front seat that is very repairable. Carpet is original and good. No rust in floor pans. All power options work; however, AC was disconnected for the engine overhaul and has not been recharged (I had planned to convert the system to R-34 but have never done so). Some items work sporadically due to inactivity including the driver side electric window, driver side rear door lock, and the front power seat control. They work, but only sometimes (loose wiring or corroded connections?). I expect that a good cleaning would fix each of them. The engine runs great and transmission shifts properly with very few miles on each since the rebuilds. Left and right front bumper bottom tubs were replaced with original replacements. Chrome and stainless are in good condition with only minor pitting in a few spots. New Edelbrock carburetor; original carburetor comes with the car (I've never been good at rebuilding carburetors so I elected to go with a new after-market replacement). Hood hinges need adjustment (hood doesn't seat properly when closed). Equipped with the Cadillac 429 cubic inch, 340 hp V-8 and Hydromatic transmission. The car floats down the road like only a 60's Cadillac can. Extra parts that I have are included in the trunk.
The Series 62 was the entry level Cadillac in 1964. While all Cadillacs looked pretty much the same in 1964, the Series 62, DeVille, and Fleetwood models offered a variety of 4-window, 6-window, coupe and convertible models. This car is the Series 62 6-window hardtop, meaning that it has vent windows front and back on each side and no stationary B-pillar between the front and back window. It's an attractive and rather formal looking car. My grandfather purchased the 6-window model because it had plenty of headroom for the hat that he always wore.
Original owner's manual, 1964 full line brochure, and other paperwork that I have comes with the car. Documentation shows that the car was built February 28, 1964 and details all options that came on the car from the factory.
The car was purchased by my grandfather, its second owner, from the local Cadillac dealership where it was purchased new and serviced. I am the third owner. It has been in our family since June 1970 and garaged until recently where it is now stored outside under cover in warm weather, garage for winter.
Body work required is a repair of a small dent in the passenger side front fender where my grandmother got a bit too close to a utility pole thanks to an oncoming driver who would not yield the right of way. There is some surface rust on that fender and a bit elsewhere on the car. I think the paint could be buffed and polished to be presentable, but a repaint would be best.
The car can be enjoyed as is or would be a good platform for continued restoration. I do drive the car locally in warm weather with no issues.
I would rate the car as "Good" for valuation purposes. Surely, better than "Fair" with complete engine and transmission rebuild having been done with original parts and an excellent original interior. The need for exterior paint and body work would disqualify it from being categorized as "Excellent". The Haggarty Vehicle Valuation Tool estimates its value at $10,900.
I will assist potential buyers by making the vehicle available for professional inspection and by assisting with buyer shipping arrangements. Buyer will be responsible for all arrangements and costs of inspection and shipping.
The car is listed for sale locally, and with the Cadillac-LaSalle Club and 63-64 Cadillac Kentucky-Tennessee Chapter; therefore, this listing might be cancelled at any time. Please contact me if you have questions. If the vehicle does not sell by other means, the auction will run to its end and the car will go to the highest bidder.
