Description:
1978 Cadillac Eldorado
NO RESERVE1978 Cadillac Eldorado. This Eldorado is the last of the big parade floats of the 70s by Cadillac. Yes it is as big in person as it looks in the pictures. It is also of the era where cushy living room comfort was the norm and this is no exception. This particular Eldorado is a one-family owner vehicle. Purchased new in 1978 and was owned by the original owner until her passing in 2010. Her son inherited the Cadillac until we purchased it a couple months ago. It has spent its entire life in the northern west coast (Washington State) until shipped to the Midwest. As far as I can tell, it is an unrestored, original condition car. Call it a very nice running and driving "barn find".
The EXTERIOR of the car is in GOOD condition. The body is straight, free of rust, and solid. Chrome on the car is in very good shape. The clearcoat on the vertical surfaces of the car is starting to peal. The overall color is becoming a bit faded. The vinyl top is in good shape and does not appear to have "hidden rust" underneath. Glass is all in good shape. Lights all appear to be in working order. The plastic fillers between the front and rear bumpers are all starting to crack, but if you were to use this as a driver (which was my intention) then maybe you could let it go. Either way, you can purchase an entire set if you chose to repaint the car. Under the car, it is free of what here in the Midwest is called rust. It does have some surface rust in a few spots, but nothing that is causing deterioration. I used to call these cars "rust free", but one of my feedback blemishes was to someone in Arizona where "no rust" meant to him nothing but shiny paint underneath. So, here in the Midwest its rust free.
The INTERIOR of the car is in FAIR to GOOD condition. The seats are in good shape, leather is surprisingly in good shape. No tears of major wear, though it could stand a good cleaning and conditioning. The door cards are the areas in worst shape, with tears, deterioration, and in need of replacement. The dash has a couple cracks. Also, the plastic armrests in the rear are cracked. On the positive side, the electrical items seem to be in decent working order. Power locks, windows, seats, A/C, heat, radio are all in working order...at this time. A/C is NOT cold, but blower was working and seems like it is engaging. I say now, as anyone who lives with older cars will know...at times things stop working for no apparent reason. Right now, all of these items are in working order. Even saying that, I strongly recommend this be towed or trailered to your location until all the safety equipment has been given a once over.
Overall, this is an excellent minor restoration candidate or an excellent driver for fun. Heck, since it needs paint, throw on a set of steer horns on the front and hot rod black it. The car has not been driven much in the past 7 years, so I am recommending spending some time going through the car. I have driven down the road and it fires right up, shifts, stops, turns without issues, but tires are getting old (even though the tread is fine) and it is screaming for a set of fat wide white walls! I have noticed it has a leak in the upper fuel line over the gas tank, so be aware that I am recommending that be fixed first. I had very big plans for this car, but my business partner whom helped with all the restoration and transformation of some of our cars has decided to pursue new career plans out of town. I am not longer restoring any vehicles, so this is being offered for sale as I purchased it.
Due to the age of the vehicle, it is being sold as-is, where-is with all faults known or unknown. I have made every attempt to describe the condition as I see it today, though I am not a mechanic, just an avid enthusiast. All sales subject to an additional $149 dealer fee which is also your non-refundable deposit. If you have questions, please ask those prior to bidding. Payment of vehicle is through cash in person, cashiers check or wire transfer only. No other payment methods accepted. Have your finances in order prior to bidding. Anyone else whom may be an influence or has veto power on your ability to purchase the car should be consulted before bidding.
