1951 Cadillac DeVille Series 62
1951 Cadillac Coupe DeVille Series 62, correct Tuscan Beige with matching interior, 39,000 original miles.
I had the opportunity to purchase this car from the second owner who lived in Le Mars, Iowa. She was approaching her 80’s and her husband had just passed away so she decided it was time to part ways with her car. The car actually has a pretty interesting story. It was sold new to her neighbor, and throughout the years she had always had the intention of buying the car from them once they were done with it. However, in the mid 70’s, her neighbors passed away and the car, along with everything else they owned was signed into an estate to be sold. The car was purchased by the local Cadillac dealer in nearby Sioux City, Iowa, from the estate. Once the second owner (the lady that I purchased the car from) found out that the Cadillac dealer had the car, she immediately went down and purchased it. The car remained in her possession until recently when I had the opportunity to purchase it. I have all of the paperwork to go with the car, even including letters from the GM of the Cadillac dealer after she had owned it for a while citing how much he enjoyed seeing the car at a routine service. I even have a picture of her standing next to the car before she’d let me take it after I bought it. Truly a great history to go with this car.
The car is completely original barring a factory correct repaint some 15 years ago. Immediately after I purchased the car, I had it completely gone through by my long time mechanic who I send all of my classic cars to. He went through the car to make sure everything was up to snuff, performed a full service, installed new wide white wall tires, and gave the car a complete detail and buff. The car is very solid with no rust issues to mention, and from the condition, shows to be garaged its entire life. The chrome and stainless on the car are all in excellent condition excluding the one right rear chrome trim bumperette that shows some minor pitting. (Don’t know if its worth fixing, as it is not that bad) The radio also lights up and hums but I cannot get it to play, the fact that it lights up and hums is a good sign showing that a resistor is still functioning, so it is probably a minor fix. . The car also has the original glass, and the only interior flaws that come to mind are a minor tear in the top corner section of the passenger backrest (shown in pictures), and the small fraying of the plastic kick panel on underneath the gas and brake pedals.
The car had spent the previous 15 years or so in storage so the first few months of ownership for me was really focussed on finding any and all problem areas and working them out so I could hop in the car and drive the car around town at a moments notice. Anyone that has had classics knows how hard it is to find a genuine example with paperwork, history, and that has had a good home. I believe this car to be one of those cars that you just don’t find as much anymore.
It is located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and I can keep it for a couple weeks or a month after the auction if you are distant and need some time to organize a shipper or plan logistics, I have no problem with that. I know a couple truckers I have used in the past for my cars, so if you’d need assistance with that I could help arrange it too, or at least help you find someone if you’d like. Message me with any questions about the car, if you’d like to have it inspected, or come see it yourself. I’d be happy to answer any questions!
