1951 Cadillac Series 62
1951 Cadillac Other Series 62 sedan
31, 00 Original Miles. Runs and Drives Great
In his youth, Elvis would have been pleased with this factory-correct ’51 Cadillac Series 62 sedan. His enthusiastic love of everything Cadillac is legendary. For BlueChip Motorcars to uncover a once dusty survivor from an era that Elvis defined in his music is truly something to sing about.
The 31, 00 original miles showing on the odometer adds to the thrill of the hunt, further evidence of the possible survivability of a 64 year-old quality automobile that captured the hearts of the motoring public when it was new. Even today this Cadillac runs and drives remarkably well and turns heads wherever it goes. It's extremely smooth motoring, and an ideal touring car for some out of the way family picnic.
As experts in the classic car industry suggest, a telltale sign of originality is often found in unusual places; like the factory door hinges, especially in a classic that weighs nearly 4, 00 pounds. It might not be scientific, but original door hinges reveal the degree of care and maintenance of an old car, especially a car that appears factory original in every regard. Fortunately, the factory hinges on VIN 516270344 are free from stress cracks, corrosion or other signs of abuse caused by the constant opening and closing of the heavy doors. The trunk even includes the original bumper jack and attachment points from 1951, along with Cadillac’s owner information sheet on how to raise and lower the car!
When the 1951 Cadillac Series 62 arrived at BlueChip’s facility, the crew went to work to verify its pedigree and condition, even before the documents and factory records from the original owners arrived, attesting to its low mileage.
Together, all the mechanicals, assembly hardware, interior components, upholstery and factory Capri Green paint scheme provided a vivid picture of a once pampered ’51 Cadillac. According to the classic-car professionals at Hagerty.com, “Survival rate is excellent and these cars have usually been garaged for much of their life.”
Further inspection unveiled a matching-numbered V8 engine, one which runs and drives fashionably well amid city traffic, and takes you back to a slower pace in time. Most importantly, the original Capri Green factory paint has survived intact with normal aging, chips and patina mostly on the quarter panels and lower rocker panels. Yet, after 64 years on the road, the factory paint still shines, a testament to the finish work at Cadillac.
After years in storage, the body is no worse for wear, and the sheet metal is solid and straight, and the doors, windows, cranks and rubber window seals appear to be in good working condition. The window glass is in good condition, too and all windows operate as they should. The chrome bumpers are incredible for a classic many decades old.
It features Saginaw-equipped steering, dual exhaust and Cadillac’s improved dual-range Hydra-Matic automatic transmission, and is powered by a 331 cubic-inch V8 that offered 160-hp@3800 rpm when new. It’s been noted that Cadillac’s 331 cubic-inch V8 can sip fuel too, some averaging 20 miles-per-gallon.
The ’51 is notable thanks to a complete redesign that happened a year prior, a change which gave the Series 62 a longer, lower more solid appearance, where the side of the car feathered into the rear fenders. The one-piece curved windshields on the ’51 were state-of-the-art at the time, and the glass in this particular Cadillac appears original in every respect. A larger grille also added to the styling cue changes of the period.
Fans of Elvis Presley believe he did more to promote Cadillac than any of the automaker’s advertisements ever did. Elvis owned and gave away a fleet of various models of Cadillac during his lengthy career. He essentially shaped his bigger-than-life rock n’ roll persona around a Detroit-made marque fit for a king. From there, Cadillac became the most luxurious brand in America; a must-have for the rich and famous.
If you are searching for American-made originality from one of the most luxurious brands, look no further than this ’51 Cadillac sedan that is ready to drive and enjoy.

About Factory Correct Cars offered by BlueChip Motorcars
BlueChip Motorcars periodically offers classic cars that may be listed as Factory Correct, or Numbers Matching. Because there are many opinions about the term(s) used to describe these types of listings, allow us to explain how BlueChip Motorcars comes to that assessment.
As you may know, depending on the source, the term “matching numbers, or factory correct, may mean many things to many people. Purists might define it as a car with every possible window crank, dash knob or even every nut and bolt is original to the car from the time it left the production line. Although some classic cars do exist in that rare condition, most do not.
The majority of classic cars on the market were at some point in their ownership, restored or repaired with NOS parts (new old stock) or licensed reproduction parts. Whenever the information is available to us about the use of these parts, BlueChip Motorcars will gladly pass it along to the potential buyer.
BlueChip Motorcars uses the term Factory Correct or Numbers Matching only to distinguish a vehicle where the engine casting code corresponds with the VIN and Cowl Tag code. If these codes tell the same story about the car in question, BlueChip Motorcars then considers it to be a Factory Correct or Numbers Matching vehicle. However, unless otherwise stated, the transmission, rear end, and transmission may or may not be original to the car.
BlueChip Motorcars welcomes all potential buyers to verify all the information with a qualified expert. We would be happy to email you all the numbers that are obtainable on any vehicle where the term Factory Correct or Matching Numbers is used.
