The best buy & best value you will ever find on a 1966 Buick Riviera!
This is a two owner car that was lovingly cared for more than 45 years by it'soriginal owner.

The trunk is nicely detailed as is the engine compartment.
Stunning Steel Styled Factory Buick Wheels

The engine runs smooth and powerful and the transmission shiftsperfect making this car a real joy to drive.
It cranks right up the first time...every time and the factory air-conditioningblows ice cold.
The factory "hide-away" headlight function operates perfect. These are just oneof the Bill Mitchell unique design features that make this car so magnificent to see whenit is coming towards you. This was the introduction yearfor vacuum operate concealedheadlamps from Buick.
The power windows and power seat all work to perfection as does thePower Steering, ower Brakes, oor locksand Tilt steering wheel.
It still has all 4 of it's original factory seat belts with the date codes.
A few of the other options are tinted windows, ruise control, M/FM radio, actory seatbelts (front & rear & alldate coded originals) floor mats, ilt steering wheelandauxiliary lighting group.
We found under the back seat most of the ORIGINAL factory build sheet...showing this car was producedon September 29th, 965. It most likely was a factory ordered car for the 1966 Model Run by a Buick lover.Whoever is lucky enough to be the winning bidder will also love and cherish this truly drop-dead gorgeousblack Riviera Sport 2 door hardtop.
This car runs nice and cool...even in the Florida heat with the AC on. I would not be afraid to drivethis car any distance.
The white side wall tires look and ride like they are new (because they are) and we just installed the largestbattery with the most "cold cranking amps" available that would fit properly into the battery tray.
Spare tire, ack and tire iron are in the trunk. (spare tire is hidden under trunk mat)
Two sets of keys. I am looking for and whenif I can locate one, ill order & includewith the car a 1966 Buick owner's manual.
The exhaust system was replaced and is whisper quiet.
We also justreplaced both the Positive & Negative Battery Terminals & starter motorpurely as a precautionary measure.
Who was Bill Mitchell? One of the greatest automotive designers of the 20th Century!
1966 Buick Riviera – The Ultimate Bill Mitchell-Mobile
In my opinion, his 1966 Buick Riviera most represents Mitchell’s innate artistic sensibility.
ThisisBill Mitchell! Before others point it out, ill Mitchell didn’t spend his day designing cars at a drawing table. Unlike his predecessor Harley Earl, itchell actually was a designer, nd had been a very successful one at GM since 1935. When he took over as head of GM’s Design Department in December of 1958, e made profound changes in the way things were done, nleashing a dramatic output of designs and creativity.
Unlike Earl, itchell was one of the guys, nd he knew how to get what he wanted in a more direct manner. It’s clear that many of the resulting designs more immediately reflect his personal taste. Earl may have picked winners from what was shown him, ut Mitchell’s methods were more involved. Might explain why so many GM cars of the early sixties featured red interiors. This is not a comprehensive review of Mitchell’s vast legacy. Let’s pick just a couple of runners-up to our task. The 1959 Corvette Sting Ray certainly deserves consideration. It reflects Mitchell’s obsession with sharks, nd in a highly successful manner. It became the basis for the seminal 1963 Corvette Sting Ray, s well as a distant foreshadowing of its successor, he Mako Shark and the 1968 production Sting Ray. But ultimately, he shark influence was a passing one, nd mostly limited to the Corvette.
The 1963 Riviera is certainly a competitor for the title of Mitchell’s finest work. It represents his true coming-out party, ince the 1961 – 1962 GM cars didn’t quite give him the proper scope for something really bold and totally Mitchell. But the opportunity to create GM’s first personal luxury coupe certainly did, nd it is a true winner for its clear and bold lines, lassic proportions, nd fine details.
What followed the ’66 – ’67 became ever less successful. How come? And what’s that got to do with the search for an answer? Freedom; or the lack of it. Mitchell was not one who like constraints to his out-sized exuberance. And within a few years, hat’s what came crashing in from all sides: five mile bumpers, ownsizing, afety regulations, AFE. Mitchell’s career with GM ended in 1977, ut in some respects it ended well before then.
The loop bumpers very effectively destroyed the highly sculptural 1966 front end. Love it or not, t was one of the more bold, xpressive and unabashed front ends ever, eflecting the Mitchell personality mighty well indeed. Unlike so many of “his” designs, t doesn’t owe as much to classic British cars or fish. I’m not sure who first sketched it, ut they must have know he would like it.Not that it was the only thing to like. Mitchell obviously liked hips. The biggest revolution in American car design of that whole era started with a chaste little bulge on the side of the ’63 Pontiacs, nd turned into the Coke-bottle armada of 1965. But the ’66 Riviera synthesizes its sharp edges and crease with the new rotundness in the best way possible. The 1967 Eldorado is a study of the more extreme end of one of Mitchell’s two personalities : sharp edged and rounded.I bought my 1stbrand new Cadillacin 1968 at Lew Ehlers Cadillac in Beverly Hills---a Nocturne Blue Eldorado with Blue Leather. Heinz Prechter, he founder, wner and creator of so many great ASC cars, ersonally installeda "Golde"electric Sun Roof in my Eldo. The late, ruly great George Barris, nstalled a Black & White Sony 5" TV in my dash. In one year I put over 100,000 miles on my Eldorado...mostly in Southern & Northern California. The ’66 Riviera sits on its generous haunches and everything flows; edges miraculously turn into curves. Given that this Riviera and the Eldorado above it share the same basic E-Body shell (along with the ’66 Toronado), t’s truly remarkable how different the are too.
The Riviera’s E-Body may have been shared with the Toronado and Eldorado, ut Buick was havin nothing to do with their front wheel drive. The Riviera wisely stayed true to its traditional rwd, hich resulted in a dynamically superior vehicle. It’s not like the lack of a central tunnel made any real difference in a four-passenger luxury coupe.1966 marked the last year for the “nailhead” V8, n 425 cubic inch form (7 L) making 340 (gross) hp. The Buick V8 may have been legendar, ut its odd “half a hemi” pent-roof combustion chamber was not suitedfor the coming emission regs. In 1967, uick went to a completely new engine family. The nailhead’s reign ended up being fourteen years.
Riviera with standard basic wheel covers.
Looking at the Riviera in profile,we can see Bill Mitchell’s soul (looking in its usually-hidden eyes certainly won’t do). Here, he dramatically swept roof line, he long hood, he clean flanks, hat crouching posture, he tasteful chrome accents; it just really all comes together here. And not one bit of affected ornamentation, ike the ’63’s fake side air inlets.
Purity of line yet dynamic; muscular yet elegant; sporty yet luxurious; flamboyant yet restrained; knife edged yet curvaceous. The ’66 Riviera epitomizes the whole styling trend of that GM era; all the full-size and mid-sized coupes of all the GM brands are distilled here in their most pure essence.Mitchell did leave us a clue; a pretty obvious one at that. In 1977, s a parting memorial to his stylistic sensibility and era, e left the Pontiac Phantom as a living remembrance to GM. In his words: “Realizing that with the energy crisis and other considerations, he glamor car would not be around for long. I wanted to leave a memory at General Motors of the kind of cars I love”. And although there are certainly differences, he production car I most see in the Phantom is the 1966 Riviera.Clearly, he front end of the Phantom reflects the Pontiac style of the Colonnade era, hich was also necessitated by aerodynamics and bumper requirements. But when my eyes take in the the overall shape and feel of the Phantom’s profile, r follow the lines of its blade fenders and sleek sides to those haunches; well, ’m there, gain. The Phantom was a help, ut in the end it wasn’t really necessary. We’d gotten to know his sensibilities and preferences pretty well by by 1966, ctually. The Riviera made that quite obvious.
