1969 Buick Riviera

Hi and Thanks for Looking. Please bear with me as the ad is going to be long, but I want to tell you everything I know about the car up front so there are no surprises. I’ve been on far too many wild goose chases to count and I don’t do business that way. I am selling the Riviera as well as two other classic cars this summer/fall as we are downsizing our collection.

Up for sale is my 1969 Buick Riviera GS. This is a Real Deal GS optioned Riviera. That having been said, I don’t know if that makes it worth any more or not, but I can assure you this is a real GS. This car was one family owned until 2022 when I purchased it. I knew of and was around this car my entire adult life. The original owner of the car also owned our local Texaco Service Station as well as the Auto Parts Store. He bought the Riviera brand new in 1969. The Riviera always got the absolute best of care and anything it needed was addressed immediately. He was very particular about the maintenance and upkeep of the car. His wife drove the 69 as her daily driver up until about 1984 when they purchased another new Riviera.

The car has its original 430 V-8 and Automatic Transmission. It runs and shifts as it should. It’s had one repaint approximately 20 years ago in the original color of Deep Gray Mist Poly. The interior is White with Black Carpet.

The car had sat in the garage for several years so I went through it and changed all the fluids, Installed new belts, hoses, and gave it a complete tune up. I went through the brakes and installed new soft lines. The original radiator was seeping so I replaced it with a new aluminum one. While I had it apart, I went ahead and changed the water pump and thermostat as well. Later on, I installed a new HEI distributer and a new Holley Carburetor. I added a set of gauges and a tach as well. No holes were drilled in the dash or pillar when I mounted the tach.

Last fall I removed the heads from the engine and had new valve guides and hardened seats installed as well as new exhaust valves. I always run 91 Octane Non-Ethanol when I can find it. I had a front end alignment done and installed new 4 Cooper Cobra which have less than 200 miles on them.Shortly thereafter, I had a new Exhaust System installed as well.I have a binder of information and receipts on the car that go with it as well. I can show you with receipts what I have spent on the car since I’ve owned it.

The Riviera is not a show car...Its a driver that I take to cruise nights and car shows, but still turns heads and always draws a crowd.

What does it still need..??

I would probably replace the Vinyl Top next and then refresh the interior. The dash is near perfect, the headliner is in good condition and the carpet is new. The seats need new covers installed and the door panels also need some work as shown in the pictures. The chrome and stainless are showing age appropriate wear but still presentable. The front bumper has a parking lot ding in it from probably 40 years ago. The rear bumper is nice, but the pot metal tail light housings are showing their age.

The vacuum headlights no longer work. When I got the car, the original owner had removed the vacuum pods and lines as they had failed years ago. He left the headlights in the open position all the time. I rarely if ever drive it after dark, so I have the headlights tied up as I think the car looks better like that. There is a kit available to change out the actuators to electric which is an option.

The dealer installed 8-track tape player works as does the radio however, the radio grounds through the antenna which I removed when I bought the car. The original antenna was gone and an aftermarket one was on the car which didn’t look right so I removed it. The original electric antenna would need to be purchased and installed to make the radio work again.

All of the electric windows operate fine. The horn, and the lights both interior and exterior all work as they should. The only gauge not working is the fuel gauge. It does work randomly work but not all the time.

The HVAC system is also not working at the moment. I just hadn’t gotten around to tracking that down. I removed all of the AC components when I took the heads off last fall, and didn’t reinstall them but they do go with the car. Most of that was ran off vacuum as well and wasn’t working when I bought the car. I really wasn’t too worried about it as I do not drive the car in the winter anyway, and seldom if ever use the AC. If I were to address the Heat and AC, I would probably just go with a Vintage Air system and be done with it.

Here’s the deal….The car is 56 years old, it's not perfect. It doesn’t drive, stop or corner like a modern car. Its just a very cool, very solid old car that draws attention and questions everywhere we go and the fact that it's still here and functional is the best part to me.

If you’re still with me, thanks for reading the ad. If your interested in the car, give me a shout and come take a look at it. I have aClean/Clear Kansas Title in Hand. Please, Please, Please…..Have all of your affairs in order before you bid. Check with your Bank, your Wife, your Husband, whoever you need to BEFOREyou buy it. Hitting “buy it now” does not allow you time to think about it or to get your finances in place.I am available and will work with your shipper to help get it loaded and headed to you. Please ask any questions and thanks again for looking.
