*1987 Buick Grand National - Clean/Clear Title, Turbocharged, Classic Muscle car
1987 Buick Grand National
For Sale: 1987 Buick Grand National
My story behind this car will be below — But, first, I just want to say that this car runs and drives great and you can drive it anywhere! It could literally be a daily driver too.
I just recently did a one-way trip for 4 hours straight on the Interstate — it had no problem and was still running great when I got home. In fact, several times, I wasn’t paying attention and found myself going 80-85 mph on that trip.
My car insurance company did a valuation and insured it for $50,000 and I can show proof of coverage and amount if needed/desired.
Free/Clean/Clear Title ready to hand over
Odometer shows 17k miles, but it rolled over, so it is 117k miles.
VIN is shown in pictures.
A/C doesn’t work and some rust on very bottom corner of driver’s side door — can hardly notice it, especially when door is shut. But, it is there. Other than that and some minor cosmetic things, everything is in great shape for a car that is almost 40 years old now!
Interior is about as good as it gets.
Bumper fillers and all the things are good.
New GN-style wheels with Turbo 6 centers
Tinted windows
Extra guages
Spare tire in back
Upgraded/newer Turbo (bigger, which is why there is less room and he disconnected the A/C vs. a kit to modify the lines)
**This has a modified radio, but I just bought a perfect stock radio for $350 and I let that go with the car** Oh, power antenna not working, but I think that is because of the newer/modified radio that was put in - might be able to plug it into the stock radio I mention here and it work just fine.
The story behind the car for me . . .
I recently bought this ‘87 Grand National from an acquaintance from Chicago (I am in Indianapolis).
My Dad had an ‘87 Grand National — one of his favorite cars of all time — he showed it and drag raced it regularly when I was a kid in middle school/high school. At one time, he had an ‘87 GN, ‘91 GMC Syclone, a ‘92 GMC Typhoon, and a ‘90 Vette. But, the ‘87 GN was his pride and joy.
He passed away from cancer a little over a year ago. I was flooded with old photos of him and his car, along with so many memories that I had as a teenager spending time with my Dad and his car. So, for sentimental reasons, I had to buy one and have one.
Now, I haven’t had it very long, but the time has come for me to part ways with this car and go on to the next adventure/project.
This is not a perfect show car and I knew that. I did not want to spend $70k — $100k+ on a low mileage show car. I wanted one I could take out and drive around town a couple times a week, drive it to work occasionally, take it to dinner dates with my wife, etc.
When I bought it, I said to myself that I could do a few of the things it needed and maybe eventually it would turn into a $50k+ GN. And, what I couldn’t do (like the A/C), I’m sure I could find someone. As it turns out, I don’t really know a lot of mechanics and people to do things to it. And, that’s not really my thing. I don’t even trust myself to change the radio out.
When I go to some of the classic car restoration places, they are booked months out.
So . . .with spring & summer coming for someone to enjoy this thing one a regular basis, I have come to the realization that I should sell it to someone that knows people that can do things (fix A/C, install radio, make sure the power antenna works, etc., etc.).
It is, for sure, a head turner — I cannot make it very far without people rolling down their windows to yell “nice car buddy” and, when I took it to the gas station to fill up the last time, people drove over and rolled down their window to ask me if I would be willing to sell the car (which will be my sales plan if I don’t sell through through a listing like this — just drive around and let people start making me offers!).
