Description:

1970 Buick GS

This is a highly original, heavily documented, legitimate 1970 Buick GS Stage 1. It still wears its original, factory applied Diplomat Blue paint. The original white vinyl roof was removed, as it was tattered. Most of the factory pearl white interior is original (I replaced the carpet, package tray, and front seat backs. Everything else is ORIGINAL).

The original owner parked it under a carport (with the DS door, quarter, and trunk lid exposed to the rain), hence the washed away original Diplomat Blue paint from those areas). The second owner purchased it for a future restoration and let it sit in his barn for many years.

The original owner (who is still alive) ordered this new in 1970. He was a racer and a family man, so he ordered the Stage 1, bench seat, automatic, AC, disc brakes, power door locks, 15x7 chrome plated rims, remote mirror, belt reveal, and sport suspension (refer to the original order sheet and original window sticker).

At 9900 miles, the engine developed a rod knock (have letters and notes the original owner sent to the dealer). The short block was replaced under warranty (have the receipt from Buick for this at 10,000 miles). Hence the block is stamped with the service number.

The original owner then started correspondence with Kenne Bell Performance, and ordered headers, a set of KB Stage 3 heads, and KB mufflers (refer to the receipts). He said he raced this frequently and lost races to only one (1) car in his area in the early 70’s. Aviation fuel became too much and he parked it under the carport.

When I brought it home, I began to see how original this car is. Original, GM engine belts were still on it (with part numbers). The original battery cables, carpet, seats, spare tire, lug nuts, so on and so on…

Seeing how this car was mostly original, my plan was to “restify”it- keep as much of the car as original as I can, and get it back on the road, safely. I buffed what is left of the original, factory applied Diplomat Blue paint as I could. I had to put new tires on the original WG wheels. I had to replace the original carpet (although I was able to save half of the original, factory installed carpet). I had to replace the front seat backs. I had to replace the rear shocks. I rebuilt 1 of the original front brake calipers, the other needs to be rebuilt. I changed the plugs and wires. That’s about it. It now runs, drives, and is registered. I am driving it around town and to various shows in the area without any issues. It still retains 2 of the original, born with T3 headlights, that still work!!!
