1987 Buick Grand National

1987 Buick Grand National

For 21 years, before NASCAR started selling naming rights in 1971, its top stock-car racing championship was known as the Grand National, and the name lingered in public usage long after the series officially became the Winston Cup. Ten years later, Darrell Waltrip raced factory-backed Buick Regals to claim back-to-back championships in 1981 and '82. So, it was in keeping with division general manager Lloyd Reuss's thrust to move Buick's image from a maker of cushy "doctors' cars" to something more youthful and exciting when it unveiled the first Regal Grand National at NASCAR's 1982 Daytona 500.

9,947 Original Miles! And this car plays every part of that 9,947 miles in the form of very clean, mostly original paint, great runner, and pristine interior. Have a closer look...

Exterior
Draped in full black attire, this straight steel paneled, good condition plastic with just a few stone nicks, great badging, and all blackened chrome trim...the word menacing comes to mind. A chip guard paint has been added to lower door panels and yielded some overspray on the areas surrounding this textured paint. Also, driver's door appears to have a swirl in the middle only upon looking very closely. The remaining paint appears to be original. Very clear glass top panels are seen and can be taken in and out very easily forming the open "T" top. Front cowlings and a small rear spoiler leave just a hint of this cars wonderful power. 16" GNX blackened honeycomb pattern wheels are on all 4 corners and sport a chrome outer dish for accent in the field of black.

Interior
Very clean stitched tuck and roll cloth is seen on the power drivers bucket and manual passenger seat. Light gray is in the centers, and black covers the bolsters. This pattern holds true for the back bench as well. Framing this interior are two long swinging doors that allow access to the front and back of the passenger compartment. These are paneled with gray tuck and roll fabric, a mid section of molded plastic to house the door handle and arm rest as well as a toggle mirror, power locks and power windows. The bottom of the door is bounded by black carpet which is carried throughout all the floors in this car which have very clean back carpet. A quintessential mid 80's square and rectangle dash is housing essential gauges and is every clean. Noted in the center console is an aftermarket B&M shifter.

Drivetrain
A 3.8 Liter V6 intercooled turbo which we will assume to be numbers matching, but cannot be absolutely verified without removing the starter. This mill has electronic fuel injection, and a numbers matching 4 speed automatic transmission. Noted also is a 10 bolt 3.42 posi rear.

Undercarriage
Nearly as one can set to the day it left the showroom, this car has been babied. garaged, and rarely driven. A Magnaflow dual exhaust has been installed, there is independent front and coil spring rear suspension, and front power discs, and rear power drum brakes are noted respectively.

Drive-Ability
As you would expect, this car starts immediately, and idles smoothly. Put into drive and you can accelerate very smoothly up to power, and speed. The car rides nicely and handles well. AC blows cold, and everything works on the power conveniences front. Seats are ultra-comfortable and clean.

Most examples of these cars have been shredded by a previous owner, or just plain used up. Quite the contrary on this car with these original miles, well maintained, and a good driver, you essentially have a new car from 1987.
