1987 Buick Regal Grand National Turbo GNX

The Buick Grand National GNX has always been a shining example of the law of supply and demand. You don't have to be an economist to understand that when you build something exceptional, there will be a significant amount of demand for it. If you limit the supply, that increases demand. GMs Advanced Concepts group built a "Super" version of the already awesome Buick Grand National, called it a GNX, and only built 547 of them. They charged a 60% premium, and people lined up to pay it. In the collector's market, cars increase in value based on how exceptional they are, and how rare they are. So now, 30 years after it was produced, how rare is it to find an all original GNX with less than 7500 miles on it? Very rare indeed. But here is a shining example of one, and it could be yours if you wish. Before we start describing this car, let's mention that there is a treasure trove of documentation about this car, the 413th one of those 547 built, that you should ask your salesperson about. There is a window sticker, factory build sheet, original warranty card, dyno sheet and an owner's manual set as well as well as any technical bulletins issued by McLaren or GM. The ownership history is documented and the mileage is original and correct. With that kind of provenance, you know that the body of this car will be just as they delivered it new, with no modifications. It looks awesome in its original Black paint with a bit of chassis rake as well as fender flares that were added in order clear the bigger wheels and tires on the GNX. There are vents that were added to the fenders to let the extra heat the motor produced out, and GNX badges appear on the grill and trunk. A simple, clean, and intimidating look. Open the door and you will find an interior that is in absolutely mint condition. The door panel sets the tone with a pleated Gray velour upper panel and black lower. There is a gray strip with chrome piping capturing the door pull and a comfortable armrest with the power window and lock switches at your finger-tips. The bucket seats are power adjustable and look awesome trimmed in gray velour for the seating surfaces with black bolsters and an embroidered logo in the headrest. A leather wrapped steering wheel sits on a tilt column in front of a dash that is graced with Stewart Warner gauges including that precious turbo boost gauge. Heating and ventilation controls that include those for the A/C system are mounted in a center pod along with the premium sound system for your listening pleasure. A T-handle shifter for the 4-speed automatic transmission rises from the center console. Black GNX floor mats and a gray headliner tie everything together nicely, and again, this interior is in mint, as new condition. Pop the hood and you will find a gloriously stock, original, GNX motor nestled down in a spotlessly clean engine bay. Some of the differences between this motor and the Grand National motor include a Garrett T-3 turbocharger with a ceramic impeller and ceramic coated intake pipe for improved power and efficiency and an intercooler with more fins per row. There is also a Richard Clark developed stainless steel exhaust with larger diameter tubing and a recalibrated ECU that permits 15 pounds of boost. The power flows back through a THM 200 R-4 transmission that was beefed up to handle the extra power. The suspension also received its share of attention to maximize traction and minimize wheel hop with a limited slip differential, ladder bars and a rear frame crossmember. Tucked up under those wider fender flares are the original 16-inch wheels which still have the original Goodyear Eagle Gatorbacks mounted that are 255/50VR16s in the rear and 245/50VR16 on the front. This car is exceptional, and it is rare. Not just one of 547, it is one of, (your guess), that exists with less than 7500 miles on it. The car comes complete with its original certificate of origin, broadcast sheet, several pieces of ASC and GM technical information, as well as the GNX book, hat, and scale model. Supply is low. Demand is high. Come on down and check this car out. We don't expect it to stick around for long.
