1969 Buick GS400 Convertable restored low reserve
1969 Buick Skylark GS
I have owned this car since 2006, and over theFollowing 9 years performed a body off restoration. The frame was stripped down and repainted with POR-15 semi-gloss black. All front and rear control arms were powder coated and re-installed with new bushings. All steering components were replaced including the power gearbox. A new fuel tank and all new fuel lines were fitted to the frame.
The original front disk brakes were refreshed with rebuilt calipers, new pads, new rotors, and new wheel bearings. The rear brakes shoes were replaced as well as all hardware and drums. Brake booster, master cylinder, all brake lines, and parking brake cables are new.
When I acquired the car in 2006 it had a small block 350. The story I was told (although there is no way for me to verify), is that the 350 was used to replace the original 400 because a rod went through the block. The 350 had a broken piston and scored cylinder wall. I found a 455 from a 1971 Riviera and rebuilt it to stock specs. It is fed by a 4 barrel Rochester Quadrajet, andhas dual exhaust withtwo 50 seriesFlowmaster mufflers. It is cooled with an aluminum heavy duty radiator.
The TH400 transmission was rebuilt by a local transmission shop.
The rear axle is the standard non-posi-traction original with 2.93 gears.
The body was re-installed with new bushings and fasteners. There was minimal rust and body work needed which was performed by a local painter. Upholstery, carpet, and convertible top were purchased from Original Parts Group, and installed by local upholstery shop, and are the correct style for the year.
Some of the air conditioning components are original. The new parts are the compressor, evaporator, and expansion valve. After installing A/C components, I vacuumed the system and added oil and R134a Freon.
The car has always been stored in garage since the start of restoration, has a clean title in my name, and CA registration is current.
I have been using this car for pleasure driving since the restoration was completed in January of 2016.
It is a lot of fun to drive, and I get a lot of compliments wherever I take it.
