1957 Buick Caballero Estate Wagon

1957 Buick Caballero Estate Wagon

I have an antiquity company in the middle of Texas. We specialize in fine antiques and collectibles.Once in a while my customers turn in a classic automobile or motorcycle.

This is one of those items:

We received this beautiful Caballero as part of the collection of a serious collector. The car is near mint condition and runs like a dream. It has a V-8 engine with an automatic transmission, air condition, power steering, power brakes, power windows, and power seats.

The car has always been parked in a climate controlled man cave, and off and on it was driven to car shows. This is a top of the line Caballero that is fully loaded and everything works.

For some of you who are not familiar withthe word Caballero it translates literally from a Spanishword for “Horseman” but more often to mean “Gentleman”.The name seems appropriate enough for a station wagon that was designed more for the country club than for the farmyard – or train station.

The Caballero is famous for not having a column between the front and back window. Our Caballero has perfect glass, perfect chrome, perfect body, and is in perfect mechanical condition. Please remember, even though the car is near mint condition, it is not a hundred point car. With very little attention, it can become a hundred point car.

The car comes with a clear Texas title, and original owner ‘s Guide. I will try to take as many pictures as I can and also provide a video for those of you who would like to see the car running.

The car was only produced for two years.

In the 1950s Detroit stylists were busy exploring the boundaries of their imaginations, going where no man had gone before. The result of these forays to the outer limits produced the hardtop body structure and the all-steel station wagon, two major innovations with differing advantages. The steel wagon meant much less maintenance and more resistance to the woodie’s inherent noise and inevitable structural degradation, while the hardtop was the answer to the buyer looking for convertible-style airiness with the safety of a sedan.Inevitably, engineers and stylists wedded the two in the 1957 Buick Caballero station wagon, a short-lived model that today enjoys great collector appeal. With matching two-tone interior, this1957 Caballero wagonuses the higher-rated 364/300 HP V-8 coupled to an automatic transmissionandis fully equippedintypical Century high style with power steeringand brakes, power front seatandwindows, in-dash clock, Sono-Matic radio and air conditioning, all ina stunningpackage, dual exhaust.

Two of the most significant post-war advances in automobile manufacture, the steel-bodied station wagon and the hardtop roof, had a major effect on subsequent designs and led for a few years to such hybrids as the Chevrolet Nomad and Pontiac Safari. While they were interesting exercises, Buick entered the hardtop wagon sweepstakes with the Caballero.Topped with one of the sleeker executions of the concept, the Caballero was distinguished as Buick’s top line wagon by four rather than three porthole vents and a more powerful version of the 364 CI engine rated at 300 horsepower, fifty more than the Rivera Estate.

Only 3,420 Caballero wagons were built, so these are now very rare cars that hold great interest not just for Buick aficionados but right across the collector-car enthusiast spectrum. The brightly-colored Caballero wagon offered here is an absolutely stunning specimen. The color scheme carries into the sharp new interior to an overall effect that is dramatically heightened by the Buick’s abundant chrome and bold lines.

But more than a gorgeous showpiece, the Caballero is powered by its original 364/300 HP V-8 and 2-speed Dynaflow transmission and equipped with power steering, power brakes and Air conditioning.
