A daily reliable driver nearly five years with my eighty two year old dad.. I worked at bmw ten years through the era of this car, trained on it and have made additions amongst network failures. 174000 miles. Here's the low downThe bad:A/C is inoperativeSunroof felt has fallen down and has been tucked awayHead liner is starting to come down in rear and tacked in functionalCruise control cable and servo removed at engine compartment but have partsPassenger seat is inoperable but manually operated to be functionalThe trunk switch was inoperative and have put a manual bypass switch into the network to over rideThe digital Temperature gauge wss inoperative. A mid eighty's gauge and sending unit modified to make an analog three wireA 1-amp battery draw has led me to the General Module. It has been bypassed for now and is functional a year or moreThe rear exhaust pipes to rear mufflers are rusted with small pinholes. Mufflers appear ok, outer shields rustedAll the headlight lenses cracked but oneLeft rear tail lense cracked, epoxied and holding together for years nowThe good:Reliable daily driver for years without check lightsThe engine does not leak oil.Engine oil change 4k or 4 months, alwaysThe transmission is wet but not dripping. Fluid change 10kBrake fluid change 10kCooling system change with new radiator, expansion tank, cap and belt, 10kPower steering flush 10kBMW OE coils and spark plugs 10kFuel filter, engine filter, cabin filter 10kFront tires new, rear tires thin and due by Christmas. Style 42's with little to no blemish. one slight edge of rash, full size spareBrakes better than 80% front and rearSuspension is tight and original with BilstiensLower control arms and bushings replaced with 750iLPaint is holding together, but older with blemishesI have added a blinking light to illuminate at cluster when the cooling fan comes on high speed, to indicate temperature is highI have a relay bypassing the GM and Relay Module network a year now, functional, pop's is selling so he's stopped put money inOE factory original e31 16 inch rims with 4 studded snow tires2 additional 4 liter cylinder heads with cams and valves for building, additional lower control arms with bushings, odds and ends2 batteries in trunk. One is new, the second passed CCA test and is functionalFactory paper back wiring manual the size of an old phone book. Thumb drive of the BMW OE drivability diagnostic manual...this will help you and your mechanic emensely in keeping this car working electrically.
