Vehicle Details1979 BMW 528i, (E12). 200,0XX miles, 4-speed manual. Original CA car, with original blue plates, original paint. I bought this car as something to tinker on, and ended up putting close to 8,000 miles on it because it's such a joy to drive. I bought it off the previous owner in Hollywood, and spent the first couple months of ownership fixing things that I've listed below. Since I've gotten it in good, shape, I've taken it all around the SoCal area (San Diego, Santa Barbara, San Francisco, trips up the ACH, etc.).
This car is the perfect mix of BMW refinement and uniqueness being an E12. Out of the 100s of cars at the recent SoCal Vintage, mine was 1 of 3 E12s. You will stand out and always feel unique in this Italian-designed quirky sedan. The 2.8L M30 pulls strong through all the gears and enjoys full throttle and spirited driving. There are a few leaks on the lower end I haven't addressed, but after a tune up it starts, runs, an idles reliably.
Suspension and steering are tight (for a 70's sedan) and give you that vintage BMW feel. The 4-speed tachs at about 3.5K on the highway at 80 MPH, this keeps up with modern traffic and rides very well on the highway.
All interior trim is original & functional, but some ergonomic/quality of life parts need some attention: Driver seat could use a new cushion, AC compressor leaks so I don't have cold AC, and heater core is plugged.
I will continue to drive the car as the listing is up, but no major road trips planned. 12K obo, feel free to come out and take it for a drive if you're interested. Only selling as I have my sights on another vintage sedan. Can send videos upon request.
