BMW 1971 2800CS E9 Coupe
1971 BMW 2800CS
This car was originally sold new in Los Angeles area and spent all its life there until 2013 when I bought it from the wife of the owner. According to the seller, after her husband passed away, it was in storage for 15 years before I acquired the vehicle.
After driving it for a couple of years, I decided to start the restoration process. I took it to a friend’s shop in 2015 where the car was stripped down for restoration. Unfortunately, my friend went out of business in the midst of the project and everything came to a halt.The body work and paint was finally completed at Autobaun Auto Body in Costa Mesa, CA, where Philip Sanchez did a wonderful job getting the body perfect and repainting it in the original BMW Granada color. The car is rust free. Since the car was stripped at my friend’s shop and he no longer owned the shop, some of the parts were lost never to be found again. My friend kept promising he will get all the parts back and finish the car for me but that never happened. I finally decided to take the car back in June of 2022 and store it in my garage before the whole thing disappeared. I thought I would finish the project at home but sadly, I don't have the time or the space to do it.
The car needs engine, transmission, drive shaft, exhaust, windshield, rear glass in addition to some other minor parts. It needs complete carpeting, seat upholstery and other minor work. The original headliner is in decent shape. The wooden dash and trim pieces have been refinished and all the gauges, switches, wipers, accessories, AC, power windows, etc. worked before disassembly. The cars comes with some new parts that I purchased for the restoration but never used. It is a perfect candidate for conversion to fuel injection and 5 speed.
