Description:
1987 BMW 3-Series
Up for auction is my beloved 1987 E30 325i Convertible. Been in my family since '95. I learned how to drive in it! Auction includes a ton of parts I sourced for it's restoration. Value of parts alone with worth several thousand more than my reserve price. Please read details below:**The good**I have well over $4000 in parts that will convey with the sale, most of them new. This includes:- BRAND NEW set of Konig Helium 15x6.5 wheels in bronze, with custom made spacers from MotorSport-Tech to match factory offset, and brand new Yokohama tires. (This is the most heartbreaking part of selling. I bought these this summer and I don't think they even have a full mile on them.) The original 5 BMW "Bottle Cap" wheels are included. I bought the new wheels because the OEM tire size has very limited options these days, but but konigs has tons. This is $1400 value alone.- Stainless steel brake lines (new)- Stainless steel clutch line (new)- Driveshaft for manual transmission (new)- Clutch & Flywheel (new)- Getrag 265 5 speed manual transmission sourced from a 91 325is (used)- Transmission crossmember mount (used)- Clutch pedal box (used)- Guibo (new)- Shifter assembly (used)- Matching (non-hem) M themed shift knob and boots for shifter and e-brake (new)- Suspension coils from a 91 e30 cabrio (used, really good condition)- Chassis has 185k original miles.- New battery- Factory limited slip differential still works great.- Car and chassis is very solid, was religiously maintained, and includes a stack of records nearly 3 inches high.
**The not-so-good**- Original engine blew during a heater core failure. We replaced with another M20B25 2.5 engine from an 89. Runs well, but has small tick coming from cylinder #1 which I think its a scored exhaust or intake valve tip- nothing critical.- Automatic transmission is original, and the car runs and drive, but the trans is spitting out fluid from the dipstick. I wouldn't trust it for more than moving it in and out of your garage until this is sorted. I drove this for a while, just topping it up but it got worse after sitting so long. I suspect a clog, my intent was to manual swap so I never addressed this issue.- Canvas top is shot. Frame is great, but the top needs to be replaced.- Paint is shot. Typical clear coat deterioration.- Dash top is cracked in the usual spots. They all do it. It's not as bad as some I've seen.- Original seats are partially recovered, but the guy used vinyl and did a lousy job. So it's a mix of original leather and vinyl. See the pics. I was going to recover these, but they were good enough for the time being.
**The Story**Lots to unpack here... here we go. I'm pretty sure my mom was the second owner, she bought it in '95 with very low miles and daily drove it for almost 2 decades. My step dad kept meticulous records and every bit of regular maintenance's done on schedule. All the records are at my friend's garage right now which is why I don't have specifics, but I will update the auction when I get the exact info. I took this car over in 2015 with the intention of manual swapping it. (I listed it here as manual, car currently has an auto in it, but includes everything to manual swap it, see details above.) Instead, life got in the way and it sat (covered in mom's barn) until this past summer when I got a second wind and bought some snazzy Konig rims, fresh tires, and towed it to my friend's home shop in Richmond, VA, where we intended to do the manual swap, but then life got in the way again and I'm ready to let it go to a good home.
**The Fine Print**I've done my best to describe the car as accurately as I can. Nevertheless, it is sold AS-IS! Buyer is responsible for pickup or arranging shipping. (23236) Keep in mind the mountain of parts that are coming with it. Has clean Maryland Title. My reserve is stupid low- considerably less than the over $4500 in parts I sourced for this project. Somebody is going to get an incredible value on this auction. Good luck and happy bidding!!
