Description:
1989 BMW 3-Series 325ic E30 Convertible
I bought this e30 in 2011 to replace our previous e30 totaled in an accident. I have owned multiple BMWs over the years and love them. It was our primary car for ~3 years until my wife’s grandmother passed and left us her practically new Toyota. This coincided with the failure of the ignition switch on the BMW, so it was put aside, under cover and a carport. My plan was to fix it and give it to my daughter when she began to drive. Of course, she decided she didn’t want an old car with a manual trans and I finally decided I should sell it since I have other collectible vehicles that need my attention.Below is a list of recently completed work. I have been driving it regularly and can attest that it is fully sorted, dependable, and working great. The primary thing I looked for, before buying this car, was evidence of accident damage and rust. I bought it because in this regard, this was the cleanest e30 I could find short of an ultra-low mile museum piece. The previous owner painted it in the original color before I purchased it in 2011. It’s not a show quality paint job and has blemishes here and there that are apparent up close. As you can see from the pictures, it looks great from 5 feet and shows well for its age. A common problem with e30s is the failure of plastic odometer gears. A previous owner replaced the instrument cluster and the current odometer only worked for a year or so before it, too, failed. My best estimate is that the car has around 200K miles, mostly compiled when it was new. The previous owner replaced the original leather seat covers with Alacantra covers. They are in good condition: no tears and hardly any wear. The AC works great. It was upgraded to R134 the right way with a Sanden compressor, was recently recharged, blowing 41 degrees. There are no tears in the top or the rear window, and it is clear. There are two cracks in the dash (common with these), but they are not visible with the current dash cover. I wouldn’t hesitate to drive it anywhere and any distance. Here is a list of everything I can recall doing to it:
New muffler
New ignition switch
New valve cover gasket
New oil pan gasket
New oil pressure switch
New airflow coolant seal
New steering rack
New front control arms and bushings
New sway bar struts
New battery
New fuel pump
New fuel filter
New starter and solenoid
New tires
New timing belt and tensioner
New cam seal
New water pump
New distributor cap and rotor
New belts and hoses
New SI batteries
New fog light bulbs
New vacuum and AC charge
