The last road trip this car made was to San Diego for an event, 1000+ miles and ran flawlessly- didn't use a drop of oil. And I ran it hard on the way home. I'd have no problem hopping in the car and making a long drive.
Car was repainted years ago in the original color using factory paint, although it presents well it has a few flaws.
Originally a thermal reactor car but I removed them and the car is running a custom exhaust, M30B35 exhaust manifolds and a custom 2.5" exhaust that runs down the car in the original routing. Magnaflow muffler, resonator and a Vibrant rear muffler, sound great and not at all offensive.
I'm the 3rd owner, the second owner purchased the car in the early 90's, he was a tech for Mercedes in San Jose CA and maintained the car himself either at the shop after hours or at his home garage, which had a lift and a full set of tools that allowed the repair of any needed repair.
Only BMW parts were used in the upkeep and maintenance.
The car carries a salvage title due to a theft recovery, the car was stolen years ago and the interior was stripped, it was originally Red. The second owner replaced it with a period correct Black leather interior. The interior presents well for the age and shows signs of use. The worst is a split in the sean on the drivers rear seat bottom and deteriorating leather on the rear headrests.
The car has had pretty much every rubber hose replaced, fuel pumps/filter, wheel bearings, rear subframe bushings, all sensors are new (except for one) and it has a NOS AFM. Passed CA smog easily with no issues.
Everything electrical works, windows, blower fan, lights...
Runs cool in all conditions, never runs hot, even in N CA summers in bumper-to-bumper traffic.
Cons-
-Needs upper control arms- I have new lower arms that go with the car.
-Shifter linkage a little sloppy
-A/C compressor is disconnected as it has a system leak, when I purchased the car i filled it with R12 and it blew 44 degrees but it has leaked out. The system will need new seals/O rings.
-Audio system is weak, has a newer Kenwood receiver (no CD) with front original location speakers and 6X9 speakers on a board in the back package tray, the package tray metal was cut (enlarged) to accommodate the speakers. There was a higher end audio system in the cars past but not there now.
-If sitting for an extended period of time the car needs to have the throttle nursed for a few seconds, after that it starts perfectly, even if a few days go by. This is due to an idle control sensor that is now NLA.
- Passenger door doesn't open from the outside
Car is currently non op on CA DMV but will be smogged and registered for a sale.
Please feel free to have the car inspected or ask any questions you may have.
